BHJ

ENTERA HEALTH

The focus of Entera Health is to advance human health and well-being through the use of animal protein components. EnteraGam is a bovine protein isolate that has the potential to help patients dealing with a variety of issues to ingest, digest, absorb or metabolize ordinary food-stuffs or certain nutrients.

Today, you will find a lot of companies that are promoting themselves as in-novative. It seems that innovation has almost become the magic word. But often you’ll find that highly acclaimed innovations are only minor product developments that have no particular value.

That’s why we have the concept of Real Innovation. To us, real innovation is two-fold. Real in the sense that we use natu-ral ingredients in our protein solutions. And real in the sense that our solutions must fit closely to what your needs are. In other words: are we able to provide real value for you in your production process or in your products when they hit the shelves? We usually are.

That’s because we have invested heav-ily in research facilities with industry experts – scientists, food technologists etc. Next to our headquarters in Ank-eny, Iowa we have the newest facility – a 20,600 sq. ft. research and innova-tion centre called the LAB. It houses culinary test kitchens, research labo-ratories, training rooms, offices and a pilot plant facility where controlled pre-production trials can be done. In addition to the LAB, Essentia has tech-nical centres in Gråsten, Denmark and Granollers, Spain. These centres serve both regional and global customers with innovative research and applica-tion services. Essentia’s application experts also regularly participate in on-site, full-scale trials at customers’ plants.

Targeting on real value

How can I use beef protein in my nutrition brands and avoid the taste of beef? How can I reduce purge in my injected ham? How can I implement this new recipe for a salami in my production?

These could be typical questions from our customers, questions that are easy to answer – in theory. But, as you might have guessed, theory is often overruled by practice. Consequently, our application services are 100 % targeted at your product and production process and how our products perform in that respect. In other words – a reality check.

We have three application services available:

Customer seminar

Often this type of seminar is carried out with new custom-ers. Each customer seminar is tailor-made, but typically it is used for training purposes for customer innovation or production personnel. The main focus is how to use Essentia protein solutions with the best possible effect in the relevant applications.

Application centre trials

Testing new ingredients or recipes on large-scale production setups can be both costly and time-consuming. Using one of Essentia’s application centres for test jobs gives you the advantage of conducting smaller-scale test runs in a small but professional environment – and getting reliable results. Our application experts will work alone – or with you on the side – to optimize your production process, so it is easy to implement in your production.

On-site testing

On-site testing is a possibility if our customers need to have our expertise available at the production site – for instance if there are problems with the different ingredients and how they react. In these cases our application experts have val-uable insights from many other production setups and are able to contribute a solution.

Essentia Functional solutions are based on pro-teins from pork, beef or poultry. When we call these proteins functional, we refer to the fact that they can have important functions in many food/health applications. Let’s dive a little deeper into what proteins really are.

Proteins are naturally occurring “building blocks” in humans and animals. In biochemestry they are referred to as molecules composed of 20 or more amino acids linked in a genetically controlled linear sequence into one or more long polypeptide chains. Depending on where they come from – i.e. tendons, blood vessels, skin etc. they have differ-ent forms and functions. The functional proteins from Essentia are typically based on collagen (the skin) which forms loosely woven fibres that permit expansion in all directions. This function is impor-tant in many food applications.

Process

Manufacturing Essentia proteins is a complex process where the proteins are being carefully ren-dered by mechanical and thermal treatment. The finished product is a protein in powder form.
