Ms. Polley introduced Brad Tabke, chairperson for the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board (PRAB). Mr. Tabke said that on November 23, 2009 the PRAB identified three goals that they felt were priorities that would greatly enhance the Parks, Recreation and Natural Resource Department. The three goals are a senior center which would include congregate dining, multipurpose facility/2 nd sheet of ice, and a second floor to the Community Center fitness facility. The PRAB chose these three because they would be the most cost effective, increase revenue, and offer the citizens of Shakopee the most opportunities. Comments from residents and discussion by Council members followed. Clay/Heitzman moved to direct staff to bring back recommendations for consultants for architectural feasibility studies and preliminary design services; ice operational studies; and a community survey. Motion carried 5-0. Lehman/Clay moved for a recess at 8:30 p.m. Motion carried 5- 0. Mayor Schmitt re-convened the meeting at 8:40 p.m. Randy Sampson, CEO of Canterbury Park, presented the upcoming events to the City Council because of the complaints against them last year regarding a concert where profanity was expressed over the speaker system. Jamie Polley, Parks, Recreationand Natural Resources Director,presented Council with the FutureRecreation FacilitiesImprovements.

Ms. Polley introduced BradTabke, chairperson for the Parks &Recreation Advisory Board (PRAB).Mr. Tabke said that on November23, 2009 the PRAB identified threegoals that they felt were prioritiesthat would greatly enhance theParks, Recreation and NaturalResource Department.

The three goals are a seniorcenter which would includecongregate dining, multipurposefacility/2nd sheet of ice, and a secondfloor to the Community Centerfitness facility. The PRAB chosethese three because they would bethe most cost effective, increaserevenue, and offer the citizens ofShakopee the most opportunities.Comments from residents anddiscussion by Council membersfollowed.

Clay/Heitzman moved to directstaff to bring backrecommendations for consultantsfor architectural feasibility studiesand preliminary design services; iceoperational studies; and acommunity survey. Motion carried5-0.

Lehman/Clay moved for arecess at 8:30 p.m. Motion carried 5-0.

Randy Sampson, CEO ofCanterbury Park, presented theupcoming events to the City Councilbecause of the complaints againstthem last year regarding a concertwhere profanity was expressed overthe speaker system.
