You’ll find jigsaw, crossword and other types of stimulating puzzles. See if you can take on the challenge!

Toddler Time Toddler Time 1 & 2 will resume Tuesday, January 16 at 10 am and 11:30 am. We are always accepting new children and for little ones who prefer a quieter environment, try our 11:30 am session! We do run on the school schedule, so if there is a delay or school is cancelled, classes will not be held.

Baby Time Baby Time will resume Friday, January 19 at 9:30 am, and registration is always open. This is a half-hour long class especially for parents and newborns to 10 months. Songs, movement, fingerplays, and simple crafts promote cognitive, spacial, and early language development and aid in perfecting fine and gross motor skills, social skills, and early problem solving.

Adult Craft Class Our adult craft class will meet Monday, January 22 at 5 pm. We will be making a glass bead candle holder. Materials will be provided, but if

you have glass beads you want use, feel free to bring them. Please bring your glue gun!

Awesome Readers Club We’ll be meeting Monday, January 8 at 4:45 pm to discuss The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater. Stop by to pick up a copy today! Note: We will not meet if school has been canceled for inclement weather. “Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue never sees them--until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks to her. For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She doesn't believe in true love, and never thought this would be a problem. But as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she's not so sure anymore.” -Amazon

‘Tween the Pages Students in grades 5-8: We’ll be meeting Monday, January 8 at 3:30 pm to discuss Holes by Louis Sachar. Stop by the front desk to check out a copy today! Note: We will not meet if school has been canceled for inclement weather. “Stanley Yelnats is under a curse. A curse that began with his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather and has since followed generations of Yelnatses. Now Stanley has been unjustly sent to a boys’ detention center, Camp Green Lake, where the boys build character by spending all day, every day digging holes exactly five feet wide and five feet deep. There is no lake at Camp Green Lake. But there are an awful lot of holes. It doesn’t take long for Stanley to realize there’s more than character improvement going on at Camp Green Lake. The boys are digging holes because the warden is looking for something. But what could be buried under a dried-up lake? Stanley tries to dig up the truth in this inventive and darkly humorous tale of crime and punishment—and redemption.” –Amazon

Like a Book? Try Read-Alikes!

Now that our “Secret Santa Reading Challenge” has ended, we’ve taken our participants’ recommendations for a good read and placed them in our “Readers

Recommend” display. All the titles featured are books that have been given the

“thumbs up” by local patrons. A fan of Christian romance? Try titles by Melody Carlson or Susan Page Davis. What about a great young adult entry? There’s Sarah Mlynowski and Candace Ganger. Or, if you’re into thrills and chills, check out T. Jefferson Parker or Nele Neuhaus. Your next favorite author could be just a read away!

Snow Much Fun

Winter weather is here and that means it’s time for our “Snowflake Celebration.” This program is open to children ages 2-5 and will be held on January 16

at 10 am. Space is

limited so registration is required and can be completed by contacting the Fairview Public Library.

Cook-a-Book Another year of “Cook-a-Book” also begins this month. On January 30 at 3:30 pm, Ms. Megan will be featuring crafts, games, and DIY snacks that celebrate the Winter Olympics,

putting you in the spirit for the upcoming games in PyeongChang, South Korea. Juvenile patrons ages 6-12 are eligible for this program and must be registered to participate.

What Do You Know About That? Trivia Contest You can also join us on January 25 from 9 am – 4 pm for “What Do You Know about That? Trivia Contest.” In January, it’s all about the birthdays. Test your knowledge of some famous folks born this month and their contributions to literature, film, music, and more. Patrons ages 14 and up are eligible to participate, and the patron with the most correct answers wins a prize!

Speaking of Books Our monthly book club, “Speaking of Books,” returns on January 23 to discuss Amy Stewart’s Girl Waits with Gun. “From the New York Times best-selling author of The Drunken Botanist comes an enthralling novel based on the forgotten true story of one of the nation’s first female deputy sheriffs. Constance Kopp doesn’t quite fit the mold. She towers over most men, has no interest in marriage or domestic affairs, and has been isolated from the world since a family secret sent her and her sisters into hiding fifteen years ago. One day a belligerent and powerful silk factory owner runs down their buggy, and a dispute over damages turns into a war of bricks, bullets, and threats as he unleashes his gang on their family farm. When the sheriff enlists her help in convicting the men, Constance is forced to confront her past and defend her family — and she does it in a way that few women of 1914 would have dared.” -Amazon

Under The Milky Way The featured guessing game is “Under the Milky Way.” The patron who comes closest to guessing the number of Milky Way Minis in the jar without going over wins!

Friends Book Sale

Cozy up to a great used book! The Friends Book Sale is open every Friday 10:00-4:30 and Saturday 9 am-1 pm and always has much loved, slightly used, and exciting books waiting for you.

Fiction Addiction Fiction Addiction is more than book talk, it’s crafting, food and FUN! Pick up your copy of Let it Snow; three holiday romances by John Green, Maureen Johnson, Lauren Myracle at Mannington Library and join the “Fiction Addiction” teen book club Monday, January 22 at 3:30 pm.

Major motion picture in the works! A Christmas Eve snowstorm transforms one small town into a romantic haven, the kind you see only in movies. Well, kinda. After all, a cold and wet hike from a stranded train through the middle of nowhere would not normally end with a delicious kiss from a charming stranger. And no one would think that a trip to the Waffle House through four feet of snow would lead to love with an old friend. Or that the way back to true love begins with a painfully early morning shift at Starbucks. Thanks to three of today’s bestselling teen authors—John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle—the magic of the holidays shines on these hilarious and charming interconnected tales of love, romance, and breathtaking kisses.

Cover2Cover The book club enjoyed The Memory of Old Jack (Port William); now they are diving a little deeper into the characters of Port William, Kentucky. Pick up your copies of Jayber Crow and Nathan Coulter by Wendell Berry and join the “Cover2Cover” book club on Thursday, January 18 at 1:30 pm!

Saturday Morning Movie @ The Library

Featuring: Despicable Me 3 January 6, at 11 am. “The mischievous Minions hope that Gru will return to a life of crime after the new boss of the Anti-Villain League fires him. Instead, Gru decides to remain retired and travel to Freedonia to meet his long-lost twin brother for the first time. The reunited siblings soon find themselves in an uneasy alliance to take down the elusive Balthazar Bratt, a former 1980s child star who seeks revenge against the world.” –Amazon
