1 Why was there inequality between the Athenian inhabitants?

Only the Athenian citizens (male, 18+ , Athenian parents) were able to take part in government.

2 How did the Athenian citizens take part in governing the city-state?- Direct democracy = every Athenian citizen had the civil right to go to the Assembly. - Citizens were elected by lottery to be part of the People’s court. - Citizens were elected by lottery to become part of the council of 500 . - Citizens were elected to become magistrates.

3 Why were there conflicts between the independent Greek city-states?Peloponnesian wars: Sparta grew jealous of the increasing power and wealth of Athens and declared war on Athens. The allies from both city-states (Delian League


and Peloponnesian League) joined in the war. The city-states fought against each other for about thirty years.
