The Georgetown McDonough School of Business appealed to me because of its focus on international business, leadership, and entrepreneurism. I was drawn to the Executive MBA program because I wanted to be surrounded by peers who had a strong practical background in business, and I saw the passion of professors and students I met with on campus.
The faculty are insightful, diverse, and challenging. The quality of the professors was exception-al, as was their general willingness to work with us beyond the classroom. I took the Mergers and Acquisitions course just as my company was evaluating the acquisition of a competitor. Professor Gary Blemaster pro-vided me with insights that helped us value the deal and make key assumptions that led to a successful acquisition.
The cohort experience was the most amazing part of the program. Over the course of two years you really get to learn about your fellow students, and the diversity and quality of the student mix were continuously inspiring. To get so many critical and valid points of view really expands your mind and challenges your own views. I made many lasting friend-ships and have developed a personal “board of directors” who I trust will challenge me and deliver critical insights whenever I call.
I know I’m a more effective leader.I have learned to listen better and listen longer. I have more self-confidence that comes from greater knowledge about my career and my role in business. And I have gained an even greater respect for the incredible challenges that humans face.
“ The EMBA curriculum,
by design, emphasizes
and affirms our global
business focus, presence in
Washington, D.C., and our
belief in a transformational
business education.”

Georgetown McDonough offers a world-class Executive MBA (EMBA)
that accommodates the fast-paced schedule of today’s busy executive.
E X E C U T I V E M B A
This intensive 20-month course of study focuses
on core business disciplines, including accounting,
management, and marketing. Conducted on
Fridays and Saturdays of alternating weeks,
the EMBA program includes classes taught in
cohorts designed to strengthen interpersonal
relationships and sharpen business acumen.
The dynamic curriculum continually evolves
to keep students challenged and engaged. In
addition, two international and two domestic
week-long residencies immerse students in
real-world business projects. During the last of
these, the Global Capstone Residency, teams
of students study the impact of globalization
in a foreign country at the national, industry,
and firm levels and present their findings at a
Capstone Weekend.
EMBA classes are led by experienced faculty
who offer practical and applicable knowledge
and who are equally committed to our students
as mentors beyond the classroom. Students in
the program span a wide range of industries
and functional areas, and our executive
development resources help provide a personal
and professional transformation experience for
all students.

Georgetown McDonough consistently is listed
among the world’s best Executive MBA programs.
In 2013, Businessweek ranked the EMBA program
18th overall and 15th in the United States.
Financial Times ranked the EMBA program
No. 5 among stand-alone United States programs
and No. 1 in the United States for the percentage
an alumnus’ salary increased three years after
graduation. The program also ranked third for
international course experience and 10th for salary.
Kathleen Wolff (EMBA ’12) Founder and CEO, TouchDome LLC
Georgetown McDonough’s Executive MBA program is among the most prestigious in the country, with committed alumni, a stellar faculty, and a focus on global business. Its location in the nation’s capital made it all the more appealing to me.
My degree has enabled me to think more strategically. The EMBA program faculty is simply superb. With the education and insights I gained from my professors and in my courses, I have been able to lay the foundation for my company’s growth.
My residency in India helped me under-stand more about social impact investing. Our assignment was to help a client develop a social impact fund to benefit India’s most impoverished people at the base of the economic pyramid. Learning the dynamics of marketing in this developing economy offered fascinating insights. My company will target developing markets in the future.
The friendships continue to this day. The cohort experience is a bonding one, and each of us contributed our unique skills in group assignments. We were all tested to the limit, and in the process we learned to support one another. We also know each other’s families and kids and respect each other’s dreams.

Opening Residency: Georgetown Means Business
This introduction to the program provides an
in-depth live case experience focused on a
specific industry. Students apply a high-level
view of finance, marketing, strategy, and other
fundamental business areas to global companies
facing real challenges in today’s competitive
international marketplace.
Business Planning Residency:
Innovation and Entrepreneurship
This residency allows students to practice the art
of creating and pitching a business plan for an
entrepreneurial initiative. With coaching from
the academic director of the business residency
and expert advisors, teams of students devel-
op an idea for a business or venture within an
existing business. The experience culminates
in a business plan competition during which
teams deliver presentations to a panel of judges
composed of successful entrepreneurs, venture
capitalists, and faculty.
International Residency: Globalization
Challenges Facing the Firm
In this signature Georgetown McDonough expe-
rience, student consulting teams work together to
solve pressing business problems facing foreign
organizations and Fortune 500 companies with
operations overseas. At the end of the course, the
cohort travels abroad to the client’s facilities to
present recommendations to senior leadership.
Global Capstone Residency:
Issues for Industries Worldwide
Incorporating all components of the program,
student teams study the impact of globalization
at the country, industry, and firm levels. With
the guidance of a faculty advisor, they travel the
world to conduct field research on a particular
country, region, industry, and corporation and
implement a real-world consultancy project.
To complete the residency, students highlight
their research in a final presentation to the
Georgetown community.

Jean Claude Chidiac (EMBA ’12) Vice President, Strategic Development CACI International Inc.
I chose Georgetown because of its reputation of academic excellence, international brand recognition, quality of international residencies, top-tier faculty, and proximity to my residence and my work. Also, the format for the EMBA program was ideal for my busy schedule.
The entire program experience made me better at what I do. Each class challenged me in different ways, from leveraging the techniques and frame-works in preparing multi-year business strategies to interpreting financial reports and making better forward-looking decisions based on them. I also find myself constantly going back to materials from the strategy and marketing classes.
I leaned on the excellent case-based knowledge foundation to tackle a major downturn in my own industry. Learning how other industries and leaders were able to survive and thrive in extremely challenging markets was seminal to me in helping my company survive and penetrate new markets during the downturn in federal contracting we experienced in the past few years.
The EMBA program is probably the best investment you can make in yourself at this point in your career. The program provided me with perspective I needed to more effectively engage with other executives and, best of all, gave me a network of close advisors from the cohort on whom I can always rely for advice and input.

Yes, it is accredited by the Association to Advance
Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
Are GMAT or GRE scores required for
admission to the EMBA program?
No. Neither GMAT nor GRE scores are required
for admission. The Admissions Committee
does reserve the right to request a score to better
evaluate an applicant’s quantitative skills.
Must students be employed full time?
We expect students to hold full-time employ-
ment throughout the program. As members

concepts in their workplaces. However, in most
cases the Admissions Committee will review
and consider applicants who currently do not
hold full-time positions.
Do I have to be sponsored by my employer?
As part of the application process, applicants are
required to submit an employer letter of support
sponsoring the students’ time commitment, includ-
ing time off from work to complete the program. A
template for this can be found on the online applica-
tion. Although some students are partially or fully
financially sponsored by their employers, financial
sponsorship is not a requirement.
May I apply for deferral if admitted?
Students who are admitted to the program may
apply for a deferral for up to one academic year.
Deferrals are granted on a case-by-case basis by
the Admissions Committee once the admitted
student submits a formal written request.
When is a TOEFL score required?
A TOEFL score is required for students who are
non-native English speakers, for students who
have not completed a degree in a university
where English is the primary language of instruc-
tion, or for students who have not worked in an
English-speaking country or organization for at
least three years.
Most applicants who take the TOEFL will take
the internet-based test. A minimum score of 100 is
required. For those who take the paper-based test, a
minimum score of 600 is required. As an alternative
to the TOEFL, we accept International English Lan-
guage Testing System (IELTS) results. We require
a minimum score of 7.5 out of 10 on the academic
module and accept only academic module results.

Ariel Batungbacal (EML ’12) White House Fellow ’12 - ’13, U.S. Air Force
The most influential aspect of the EML program was the chance to study executive- level leadership in a world-class program that values diverse experiences within a cohort. The faculty have a strong mix of professional and academic experience, which offers a blended, sophisticated education.
My cohort experience was extraordinarily rich and meaningful and created a broad network of relation-ships that have surpassed graduation. This is the point, though, right? A cohort of smart, diverse personalities and experiences to deepen learning opportunities and broaden our professional network, all for practical application.
Residencies deepened my cohort’s relationships. They provided a concentrated, extended period away from distractions like email to dive deep into leadership challenges.
This is a personal investment into yourself as a leader. When you are ready to brush off your trusted leadership tools and are open to acquiring new ones that may challenge how you lead — do it. Be all in, be present, and be ready for a life-enhancing experience!

“ As part of Georgetown
University, the McDonough
School of Business is committed
to the whole person: as indi-
viduals who are intellectual,
social, spiritual, emotional, and
physical beings. Many of the
professionals who complete
the EML program describe it
as life-transforming. And I can
tell you that teaching in the
program — and learning along
with students — has been
transforming for me.”
– Lamar Reinsch, Professor of Management and Former Academic Director, Executive Master’s in Leadership Program
Georgetown McDonough offers a distinctive Executive Master’s in
Leadership (EML) program for executives aiming to advance their lead-
ership skills and gain a deeper understanding of management strategy.
This 13-month course of study integrates
practical management skills and advanced
leadership theory to enable students to effect
change within their organizations. The EML
curriculum trains business leaders to:
1) Identify where their organization stands in
relation to the current global environment;
2) Anticipate how the future is likely to unfold;
3) Best position their organization for future
success; and
4) Influence others to support advancement
toward successful outcomes.
Distinguished Georgetown faculty create a rich
experience for EML students with a combination
of coursework and three residencies, including
one consulting project conducted abroad. Each
residency is carefully designed to challenge
students to integrate and apply experience
and learning in simulated and actual
leadership scenarios.

Gerald Bruce (EML ’12) Vice President of Sales, Nutricia North America
The Georgetown McDonough EML program, with its focus on leadership, was the best fit for me. It was my goal to become more effective as a leader and, as a leader of leaders, to enhance the leadership skills of the managers that report to me in my organization.
The diversity of experiences and perspectives made for stimulating discussions in each and every class. The student collaboration and discussions led to friendships and associations that will go forward well beyond the program. The residencies also were valuable because, in many ways, they were an extension of the discussions we had in class.
My favorite class was the one in which we developed our personal leadership action plan. The course helped me gain a better understanding of what I do when I am at my personal best and develop a plan to focus on those behaviors on a consistent basis. I continue to get enormous benefit from my personal leadership action plan.

As part of their summer 2013 global residency, three
EML students transformed a resource center
in a poverty-stricken township of South Africa
into a new recycling facility in the center of the
community.
Cherian Thomas, Tim Powers, and Ted Fahy
encouraged entrepreneurship in Langa Township
by educating the community on the value of waste.
With a mission to improve the local economy, the
students felt it was imperative to teach through
example. They partnered with local recycling
companies to educate the community on recycled
commodities.
Moved by Langa’s staggering unemployment rate
of more than 50 percent and challenging health
issues such as HIV and AIDS, the students saw the
opportunity to help rejuvenate and improve the
quality of life in the area.
With industry insight and relevant professional
experience, the students pursued a partnership
opportunity with Sappi Southern Africa, part
of Sappi Limited, a global leader in pulp and
paper headquartered in South Africa. Sappi
Southern Africa provided expertise and
assisted in coordinating the infrastructure
for the HLAZA (Green) Innovation Center, a
renovated buyback center where local residents
sell their recyclables at fair market value for the
respective recyclable commodity that they have
collected. The more recyclables that collectors
secure on a daily basis, the more they ultimately
will earn.
The team constructed a blueprint for a fully
functional waste collection company and
selected a local entrepreneur to oversee the
center. To ensure the sustainability of this new
venture, the Georgetown students are working
with Sappi ReFibre, K & C Waste, CONSOL,
PETCO, and Collect-A-Can to serve as the
primary buyers of the recovered material.
Once the commodities are sorted at the HLAZA
Innovation Center, each buyer will collect
recycled commodities — benefiting residents,
businesses, and the overall environment.

Declan J. Lynch (EML ’11) Lead Associate, Booz Allen Hamilton
Having been in the United States Marine Corps and having served as a leadership instructor to newly commissioned officers, the concepts of leadership were significantly important to me. I enrolled in the Georgetown McDonough EML program because it was what I was looking for in a graduate program — a focus on how to achieve professional success in myriad types of organizations and not just in corporate America.
The EML coursework was relevant to my career, and my career enriched my coursework. Taking such fantastic courses with great instructors while still working full time creates a vibrant classroom environment with invaluable discussions with classmates and peers.
The concept of self-awareness was critical to understanding my own effectiveness as a professional. This continuous process of self-improvement has helped me be a better communicator, a more organized manager, and ultimately a more effective leader to my staff and clients while helping to shape my organization and position it for growth.
I would advise anyone considering the EML program to come to campus and participate in a class. Seeing the quality instruction and the vibrant classroom environment as well as the high-caliber cohort of students will help you understand the great value of the program and how it can be a great fit for your own personal and professional development.
Georgetown McDonough EML students are accomplished business leaders from diverse locations and
industries in the United States and around the world, and their experiences broaden the education of
their peers. Below is a snapshot of a typical EML class.

What degree do I earn upon completion of the
program?
EML graduates receive a master’s in
leadership degree.
Is the EML program accredited?
Yes, it is accredited by the Association to Advance
Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
Are GMAT or GRE scores required for
admission to the EML program?
No. Neither GMAT nor GRE scores are required
for admission to the EML program.
Must students be employed full time?
We expect students to hold full-time employment
throughout the program. As members of an
executive learning community, students bring
real-world experience into the classroom and
are able to immediately apply academic
concepts in their workplaces. However, in
most cases the Admissions Committee will
review and consider applicants who currently
do not hold full-time positions.
Do I have to be sponsored by my employer?
As part of the application process, applicants
are required to submit an employer letter of
support sponsoring the students’ time commit-
ment, including time off from work to complete
the program. A template for this can be found on
the online application. Although some students
are partially or fully financially sponsored by
their employers, financial sponsorship is not
a requirement.
May I apply for deferral if admitted?
Students who are admitted to the program may
apply for a deferral for up to one academic year.
Deferrals are granted on a case-by-case basis by
the Admissions Committee once the admitted
student submits a formal written request.
When is a TOEFL score required?
A TOEFL score is required for students who are
non-native English speakers, for students who
have not completed a degree in a university
where English is the primary language of in-
struction, or for students who have not worked
in an English-speaking country or organization
for at least three years.
Most applicants who take the TOEFL will take
the internet-based test. A minimum score of 100
is required. For those who take the paper-based
test, a minimum score of 600 is required. As an
alternative to the TOEFL, we accept International
English Language Testing System (IELTS) results.
We require a minimum score of 7.5 out of 10 on
the academic module and accept only academic
module results. Visit www.ielts.org for more infor-
mation about IELTS registration.

Tuition is billed on a per-credit rate across four
tuition installments. Course materials, meals, hotel
accommodations for off-campus residencies, and
parking are included.
What process should I follow if my employer has
agreed to provide full or partial financial spon-
sorship for my degree?
Candidates who are receiving full or partial
financial sponsorship from their employers should
report this information on their application forms.
In addition, applicants may set up third-party
billing on their student accounts so their company
sponsors can be billed directly for full or partial
tuition payments.
Does the Office of Executive Education provide
scholarships for degree program students?
Each program offers scholarship opportunities
based on eligibility. Self-sponsored applicants are
encouraged to include a scholarship essay with
their applications. Applicants are notified of schol-

Philip A. Njowusi (GEMBA ’12) Managing Partner, Pan Services
I needed a business management program with global perspectives and the opportunity to interact with other executives. I also needed a program that would fit my schedule and my obligation of managing an existing business.
As someone who started a business without a formal business education, I was looking to transform my skills. I applied what I learned in class to manage my company’s cross-continental project teams and sharply improve our delivery processes. We now confidently look at global opportunities and recently added a team in Europe for a development project located in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The residencies gave us a global learning experience. We experienced other economies and cultures, and we made day-to-day operational observations that enabled us to become more adaptable in real-life situations.
I am now better informed and more open-minded. The program has been a transformational experience that has reaffirmed my confidence and provided a global network of friends and business associates.

Codie Sanchez Baker (CIM ’14) Vice President - Institutional Sales Director, State Street Global Advisors
I enrolled in the Corporate International Master’s (CIM) program because my busi-ness is globalizing, and I was intrigued by the growth opportunity in Latin America.
The CIM program is not a classmate-vs.-classmate environment. As executives, we have enough competition in our day jobs. These professionals understand the truth of being stronger together. But the faculty absolutely make this program. They are awe-inspiringly brilliant, incredible orators, skilled professionals, thoughtful instructors, and incredibly engaged.
I can quantify immediate returns on my education investment. In one class, we did a case study analysis of a large multinational corporation in Mexico. I became intimately familiar with the company structure, global footprint, historical obstacles, and leadership strategy. The following week I was at a conference in Santiago and met the firm’s CFO. I was able to offer a few insights the class provided me, and now my company has an open opportunity to submit an investment proposal that could equate to millions in revenue.
If you are considering this program, I would say jump in head first. It’s a chance to be at a premier institution that sits in the crux of global policy in tandem with a renowned school in Europe with long-standing connections and a top school in Brazil, which is an economy many are eager to penetrate.
