Welcome to Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. At home in the center of international politics and business, and at the heart of one of the world’s great universities, we have grown from a storied history and Jesuit heritage to become a thriving business school. As Georgetown McDonough’s new dean, I am inspired by the ways we continuously transform ourselves to transform the world – from how we teach business, to how our students defi ne their roles in the world. With a focus on student success and a global mindset, we develop and educate principled business leaders who address the most signifi cant challenges and opportunities facing business and society.

I invite you to take a closer look at our school and all that we have to offer, from our highly ranked undergraduate, MBA, and executive education programs to our distinctive initiatives that examine entrepreneurship, ethics, and social enterprise. Our world-class faculty excels in research to impact practice and shares a passion for teaching. Our students engage in live case studies and international consulting projects. Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business is a premier business school located at

the center of world politics and business in Washington, D.C. Some 1,400 undergraduates, 1,000

MBA students, and 1,200 participants in executive education programs study business with an

intensive focus on leadership and a global perspective. The school’s faculty comprises close to 100

full-time and 70 part-time professors with teaching, research, and business experience.

The school was founded in 1957 by faculty in the School of Foreign Service who believed that an understanding of commercial markets was essential to worldwide political stability. The school is named for Robert Emmett McDonough, a 1949 graduate of the School of Foreign Service, the founder of RemedyTemp staffing services, and a four-term member of the Georgetown University Board of Directors, who also held numerous other advisory and alumni board positions. His first gift of $5 established a pattern of giving that would last a lifetime. In 1998, he made a $30 million gift to name the school — the largest gift to Georgetown University at that time.

Noteworthy Facilities

Today, the McDonough School of Business resides in the 179,000-square-foot Rafik B. Hariri Building. Blending the tradition of Georgetown University with forward-thinking functionality, the LEED® Silver-certified building features 15 classrooms, 34 breakout rooms, 15 conference rooms, 11 interview rooms, a 400-seat auditorium, two large student lounges, and 120 faculty offices. The

building is named in the memory of Rafik B. Hariri, two-time prime minister of Lebanon, noted philanthropist, and ardent advocate of education.

Distinguished Faculty

The faculty members at the McDonough School of Business are world-class scholars engaged in pioneering research; professionals who have corporate, nonprofit, and government leadership experience; and entrepreneurs who mentor students in starting businesses. As academic and industry leaders, they incorporate scholarship and expertise into their teaching practices, inspiring students to become stewards in business and serve society. Distinguished by an emphasis on global business and an immersive approach to practical learning, Georgetown McDonough develops ethical global leaders who can build a better world for themselves and others.

Leading in the Global Marketplace

Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business strives to provide a transformational educational

experience that prepares students to serve business and society. The curriculum equips

undergraduate, graduate, and executive students with the intellectual knowledge needed

to overcome real-world obstacles, grants them the opportunities to put those concepts into

action, and inspires them to become principled leaders.

Undergraduate Studies

Georgetown McDonough educates students in the Jesuit tradition, encouraging the continued pursuit of knowledge and fostering a commitment to the service of others. Combining a comprehensive liberal arts education with instruction in core business disciplines, the undergraduate curriculum prepares students for professional achievement in the business world, as well as advanced graduate studies.

With a student body representing all 50 states and more than 50 foreign countries, Georgetown University continually attracts outstanding international students and an internation-ally recognized faculty. Students can earn business credit in nearly 40 institutions worldwide during the year – and in three unique Georgetown McDonough summer programs in Barce-lona, Oxford, and Shanghai, including a new joint program in Global Entrepreneurship at ESADE Business School in Spain.

In addition to studying the basics of business, students now have the opportunity to earn a certifi cate as an Entrepreneurship Fellow. This innovative three-part program takes students from the fundamentals of what it means to be an entrepreneur, to developing and refi ning a business plan, to a capstone course that focuses on practical implementation of their knowledge under the mentorship of local entrepreneurs.

Full-time MBA Program

Georgetown’s Full-time MBA Program delivers a global management degree that provides students with core business knowledge and analytical skills to manage and lead a 21st century organization. The curriculum allows students to select and tailor their electives toward highly individualized career aspirations.

Summer internships, along with several integrative learning experiences throughout the curriculum, extend formal learning from the classroom to the business world. These include the signature Global Experience, which prepares students to lead multinationally. Student consulting teams tackle a pressing problem for companies doing business abroad and travel to client countries to present their work to management.

MBA Evening Program

The Georgetown MBA Evening Program features the same courses and faculty and confers the same degree received by graduates of Georgetown’s Full-time MBA Program. Through a convenient schedule of classes that meet on campus two evenings per week, students experience hands-on learning in a collaborative environment of cohorts, gain access to student clubs and campus activities, and complete the signature Global Experience while maintaining and advancing their careers.

Engaging Business at the Executive Level

Georgetown McDonough’s Executive Education Programs cater to the lifestyle and learning style

of accomplished professionals, providing an advanced business curriculum, immersion in global

business, and transformations on both professional and personal levels. The community connects

peers, professors, thought leaders, and alumni to create the valuable network that is characteristic

of Georgetown’s programs.

Executive MBA

The Executive MBA, a 20-month program that concentrates on quantitative, analytical, and core business disciplines with a global focus, meets every other Friday and Saturday. Through four integrative projects or residencies, students focus on live case studies, plan for entrepreneurial initiatives, consult for international companies and travel abroad to present their recommendations, and study the impact of globalization through capstone projects.

Global Executive MBA

The Georgetown-ESADE Global Executive MBA offers classes in modules around the globe during a 14-month program. Situated in a variety of global economies, the intensive learning experiences provide a broad view of geopolitics, policy, and international business and strategy, as well as opportunities to interact with authors, business leaders, researchers, CEOs, and policymakers. Graduates receive MBA diplomas granted by both Georgetown University and ESADE Business School in Spain.

Executive Master’s in Leadership

Georgetown McDonough’s Executive Master’s in Lead-ership Program integrates practical management skills and advanced leadership theory throughout a full year of coursework to enable students to effect change within their organizations. Coursework is designed to be sequential, building on specific topic areas to develop deep under-standing and action learning that can be immediately related to the workplace. Students also attend three residencies, one of which takes place abroad.

Custom and Executive Development Programs

Individual professionals can build skills, expand networks, and deepen business and leadership acumen through non-degree Executive Development Programs, including open enrollment courses. Georgetown McDonough also offers customized programs to meet the unique needs of clients, from Fortune 500 companies and nonprofit firms to governments and multilateral organizations. The curriculum is geared toward practical applications, allowing executives to demonstrate results immediately.

Preparing Students to Serve Business and Society

Through the examples of faculty and participation in distinctive initiatives, students in the

McDonough School of Business understand what it means to serve both business and society.

Building on Georgetown University’s Jesuit heritage of service to others, the programs offer

opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs and instill in students a sense of responsibility, to both

shareholders and society.

Entrepreneurship Initiative

Georgetown’s Entrepreneurship Initiative encourages creative thinking and activity, teaches valuable lessons learned from current and past entrepreneurs, connects a variety of individuals and organizations, and leads to new ventures and knowledge. In addition to a comprehensive curriculum on entrepreneurial topics, students learn beyond the classroom through business plan competitions, pitch sessions, and other extracurricular activities.

Global Social Enterprise Initiative

The Global Social Enterprise Initiative at Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business aims to prepare current and future leaders to make responsible management decisions that yield both economic and social value. Through practical training for global business leaders, the initiative advocates for transformative solutions to the world’s signifi cant challenges in health and well-being, economic growth, the environment, and international development.

Undergraduate First Year Seminar

The First Year Seminar entitled International Business, Public Policy and Society is an exciting way for fi rst-year students to explore the nature of scholarship, learn diverse areas of business, and foster intellectual and personal growth. With an emphasis on global perspectives, these seminars establish mentoring relationships with faculty, strengthen critical academic reading and writing skills, and introduce students to the importance of giving back to the commu-nity. With a different nonprofi t partner each year, students culminate their learning in a unique case competition in front of executives from the partner organization.

Career Networks

Each year, an extensive network of high-profi le alumni and employers return to campus knowing they will continue to fi nd top talent and future leaders, with more than 250 organizations hiring undergraduate and MBA students in a single academic year – several hiring more than one graduate from the school. Employers connect with potential hires through resume books, the online HoyaJobsCentral, and on-campus, telephone, or virtual interviews and fi nd graduates who have made meaningful contributions in the public, private, nonprofi t, and government sectors.

Conducting Research that Impacts Practice

The vibrant research community at the McDonough School of Business flourishes because its

members explore topics that have an impact on current and future business practices and societal

problems. The research produced by faculty, students, scholars, and fellows informs business and

government leaders, shapes public policies, and addresses global challenges.

Center for Business and Public Policy

The Georgetown Center for Business and Public Policy in the McDonough School of Business engages scholars, business professionals, and policymakers in relevant inquiries and dialogue to impact key business, economic, and public policy issues. The foundation of the center is a set of senior policy scholars whose research interests concentrate on competition and innovation, two vital economic issues facing the economy. Scholars present their findings to congressional leaders at regular “Georgetown on the Hill” sessions and other series focused on areas in the sphere of public policy.

Center for Financial Markets and Policy

The Georgetown Center for Financial Markets and Policy in the McDonough School of Business provides a forum for informed public discussion regarding critical policy and regulatory issues related to global financial markets. The center hosts dialogues and conferences involving leading scholars, practitioners, and regulators; sponsors original research and maintains an electronic working-paper series; and engages students interested in global financial markets.

The Real Estate Finance Initiative, which is part of the Center for Financial Markets and Policy, builds a community of interest through events with leading real estate finance professionals and organizations, and expands professional opportunities for students interested in real estate.

Institute for the Study of Markets and Ethics

Headquartered in Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business, the Institute for the Study of Markets and Ethics brings together fellows from all divisions of the university to advance understanding of the ethical issues inherent in the functioning of the market society. The institute’s comprehensive approach produces high-quality research related to the ethics of markets and the ethical challenges individuals encounter when functioning in a market environment. By educating students and the broader community about these issues, the institute brings ethical considerations to bear on policy decisions regarding the regulation of markets.

Embracing a Global Approach

Georgetown McDonough is recognized for its leadership in creating a curriculum with an

international focus and global opportunities. This global approach extends to study abroad

opportunities for undergraduate and full-time MBA students, career treks across the United

States and around the world, and the signature Global Experience. These powerful educa-

tional experiences prepare students to adapt and succeed in a changing business world.

Undergraduate Global Education

Georgetown McDonough offers numerous opportunities for undergraduate global education, encompassing partnerships with nearly 40 universities and colleges in 35 countries. More than half of McDonough undergraduates study abroad, im-mersing themselves in life outside of the classroom, exploring career opportunities, and earning credit toward their degrees. In addition to the traditional annual exchange programs, undergraduate students have the opportunity to select from the following specialized summer programs:

– Comparative Strategic Management at Fudan University in Shanghai, with a special focus on the Asia-Pacifi c market.

– International Finance at Oxford University, with a focus on the British and EU perspective.

– Global Entrepreneurship at ESADE in Barcelona, with a focus on international business and marketing in the European context.

Graduate Global Experience

Each year, student teams complete more than 100 con-sulting projects through the required Global Experience programs in the school’s MBA, Executive MBA, and Executive Master’s in Leadership programs. In recent

years, students have traveled to Argentina, Brazil, China, India, Vietnam, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, the Czech Republic, and South Africa, working for clients ranging from small entrepreneurial companies to global enterprises, from public- to private-sector institutions, and from local to international corporations.

MBA Career Treks

Each fall, MBA students travel in the United States and abroad to network and learn more about specifi c industries during the school’s Career Treks. Organized by student clubs in conjunction with the MBA Career Center, these excursions are designed to promote interaction with alumni and other important business leaders. Recent international Career Treks include trips to Dubai, Hong Kong, and Madrid. In the United States, the treks have been organized around industries, including discussions of fi nance on Wall Street, visits to Silicon Valley during the CalTrek, meetings with consumer product and consulting executives along the Northeast Corridor, and a focus on energy and international development in Washington, D.C.

Creating a Community of Philanthropic Leadership

Georgetown McDonough, with its worldwide network of alumni, benefactors, and friends,

offers unparalleled opportunities to impact the individual, the school, and the community

through volunteer contributions and generous financial support. These relationships extend

to the many nonprofits, government entities, businesses, and corporations based in the

nation’s capital and around the world.

Volunteer Service

Earning a degree from Georgetown McDonough represents a personal commitment to invest in oneself and in the future. As with all investments, McDonough School of Business graduates return both time and treasure through contributions to annual funds and campaigns, serving on advisory boards and panels, mentoring students, conducting admission interviews, hosting dinners and coffee breaks, planning events and reunions, and referring students to internships and employment opportunities. These same graduates provide leadership in their home communities, supporting the institutions and causes that will impact society and transform the world.

Student Impact

Students start their service at Georgetown University through extracurricular activities and clubs, including the two-time Gold Status chapter of Net Impact, an international nonprofit organization with undergraduate and graduate chapters and a mission to inspire, educate, and equip individuals to use the power of business to create a more socially and environ-mentally sustainable world. Throughout the year, students engage the local community and support global movements by collecting Toys for Tots, hosting an annual Ultimate 4

Basketball Tournament to benefit a local youth charity, and joining together for a volunteer service month and various campaigns to raise awareness and funding for important issues and initiatives.

Significant Investments

Robert Emmett McDonough gave $5 the first time he contributed to Georgetown University, beginning a pattern of giving that lasted a lifetime. His success as a business entrepreneur was matched by his generosity as a philan-thropist; he made a gift of $30 million to name the business school. The McDonough School of Business thrives within the walls of the Rafik B. Hariri Building – conceived, championed, and paid for by the sustained effort and generosity of alumni, who recognized the value of investing in a state-of-the-art facility to develop future leaders. As the number of alumni continues to grow, so, too, does a collegial spirit of generosity and shared vision. Support for new initiatives and word-class faculty often stems from the inspiration and insights of graduates, as they continue to share resources that enable Georgetown McDonough students and faculty to be part of a transfor-mational educational experience.
