Georgetown Baptist Church seeks to go into the world to bring people to Jesus and assist believers to become fully functioning followers of Christ. June 2011 Volume 16, Issue 6 In most churches summer is the busiest time of the year. It is no difference for Georgetown. Our calen- dar is packed with activities and minis- tries that seek to fulfill our mission as a church. VBS kicks off June 13 and, as usual, is a huge event at Georgetown. The theme is the “Big Apple Adven- ture, Where Faith and Life Connect.” The theme Bible verse for the week is, “So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about Christ” – Romans 10:17 (HCSB®). We will be sharing in a fun and exciting way the life giving mes- sage of Jesus Christ. Be sure to regis- ter for VBS on our website. Several of our teen-agers will be at a leadership camp June 5–10. It is exciting to see young people grow- ing in their faith and being willing to serve Christ through their church. On June 15, eleven people from GBC will join two other churches to travel to Latvia. Their mission will be to conduct an Orphan Camp. They will be teaching children about the love of God by personally interacting with them and sharing the stories of the Bi- ble. Children’s Camp is June 24- 28. It will be at Austin College. Cen- triKid Camps are always life impacting for 3 rd – 6 th graders. Make sure the kids in your life are connected with this camp. All the information you need can be found at www.georgetownbaptist.net . Check it out and get signed up. Falls Creek will again be the destination of our youth camp July 18-22. We were there two years ago and had an incredible time. This year’s theme is “Consumed: Psalm 103.” The fo- cus will be on the sufficiency of God. Psalm 103:1 says, “Bless the Lord, o my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name.” Students will be challenged to be consumed with Christ, because if all else is stripped away, He is yet sufficient to meet our every need. Only Christ satisfies. Everything else leaves us empty and longing for more. Sign up to be part of this exciting week. Our 2 nd Annual Sports Camp will be July 25-29. There will be quality instruction in volley- ball, baseball/softball, football and basketball. In addition to the ath- letic instruction there will be in- struction from the Word of God that relates practically to kid’s lives. This camp is for kids that have completed 3 rd -6 th grade. The cost is only $100.00 that includes lunch, snacks, sports drinks and a t- shirt. Sign up for this event on our website. The summer concludes with our 3 rd annual trip to Chiapas, Mexico. Nineteen people from Georgetown are going to build a church building in a village so that people will have a place to worship God. We will also be conducting VBS in a different village each day. Pray for the team from our church as we partici- pate in this Great Commission en- deavor. Well, I’m tired just thinking about all of this. But I am incredibly excited to see how God is going to im- pact our lives as we reach out to share the love of Christ in so many different ways. Are you involved? Have you found a place to serve? If not, call the church office NOW. Check out our website to register for any of the events that we are engaged in this summer. James 1:22 says, “Be doers of the word and not hearers only.” What are you going to do to serve our Lord?

In most churches summer is the busiest time of the year. It is no difference for Georgetown. Our calen-dar is packed with activities and minis-tries that seek to fulfill our mission as a church. VBS kicks off June 13 and, as usual, is a huge event at Georgetown. The theme is the “Big Apple Adven-ture, Where Faith and Life Connect.” The theme Bible verse for the week is, “So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about Christ” – Romans 10:17 (HCSB®). Why do we come to worship time on Sunday’s? I asked myself this question. I know I lead worship but if I wasn't leading (which I have not most of my life) Is it out of habit? An obligation We know it’s good for the kids We like the worship music The pastor is great Business connections Social reasons Trying to impress others Are we slaves to what we think worship is? We are free to worship God in spirit and in truth. “It’s a lifestyle not just a Sunday thing” Think about it the next time you join in worship —— Chris

A slave! Does that detestable word describe you? What masters your life, at least part of the time? Children? Work? Self Image?

Neighbors? Parents? Alcohol? Pornography? Drugs? Business success? Social success? Worship? Sloth?

Trent Butler says in the series “7 WORDS of Worship” “Yes we can be slaves to what we think worship is.”

“Its a life style not just a Sunday

thing”

Dear Georgetown, You can’t even imagine how much I miss all of you. Keri and I are doing fine. We really like (I couldn’t quite say love) our house. You are wonderful, great people. I know there is no place on earth the equal to the love, fellowship and service of George-town. I want to thank all of you for blessing me as you have. I will try to carry and give to others the love and caring you gave to me. God bless and keep you. You are in my prayers. -Ellen Fondren
