Notes - Table D.1

The average prices received by -producers refer to cattle (not calves) slaughtered weight, whole carcasses, halves and quarters, averages as calculated by Slakteriforbundet, the predominant producer association. These prices are higher than the average wholesale prices due to the consumer price subsidies which take the form of government payments (price additions) to producers (see also part G).

Average wholesale prices, manufacturing grade refer to whole carcasses, halves and quarters in Stockholm and Gothenburg, averages as calculated by Slakteriforbundet.

Average wholesale prices, table grade have been calculated by the National Price and Cartel Office. Table grade prices for different parts of a slaughtered bovine animal are weighed together to a national average table grade price for the whole bovine animal. The different weights depend on the relative shares of,different parts of a slaughtered animal. This information comes from meat cutters in nine different representative regions. The. yearly figures for 1975-77 refer to 31 January each year. The figures for the first quarters in 1978, 1979 and 1980 also refer to 31 January each year. The figures for the third quarters in 1978 and 1979 refer to 31 July each year.

Average retail price for beef is a national average retail price for the whole animal based upon the same principles and ways of calculation as the manufacturing grade price. The basis for the average retail price is information from price lists from three different chains of retail shops in the same nine representative regions as in the case of the average table grade price. The figures stated refer to the same dates as the table grade prices.

Average import prices (c.i.f.) are derived from total imports of bovine meat - carcass weight - and the value of total imports of bovine meat (the ratio between these).

Average retail price for major competing meat refers to pigmeat. It is calculated by the National Price and Cartel Office in the same way as the average retail price for beef. The stated figures refer to the same dates as the table grade price and retail price for beef.

Average export price is the ratio between the value of total exports and the quantity of total exports.
