Cain labored as a farmer (Gen. 4:2).
Abel toiled as a shepherd (Gen. 4:2).
Jabal’s family lived in tents and herded cattle (Gen. 4:20). Jubal’s children were talented with musical instruments (Gen. 4:21).
Tubal-Cain was a worker of brass and iron (Gen. 4:22).
Enoch walked with God and went to heaven without dying (Gen. 5:24).
Methuselah died at age 969, the oldest man recorded (Gen. 5:27).
Noah was 600 years old when the great flood occurred (Gen. 7:6).
Arphaxad was born two years after the flood (Gen. 11:10).
Canaan was cursed by Noah because Canaan’s father, Ham, did not cover Noah when he found him drunk and naked (Gen. 9:25).
Javan’s sons lived in different lands and spoke different languages (Gen. 10:5).
Terah left Ur with Lot, Abraham, and Sarah, and lived in Haran (Gen. 11:31).
Nimrod was a mighty hunter and the king of Babylon (Gen. 10:9–11).
Giants are mentioned throughout the Old Testament, until the time of King David. One giant had six fingers and six toes (1 Chron. 20:6–7). Another giant, King Og, had a bed measuring 13 1/2 feet long (Deut. 3:11). The giants Goliath and Lahmi are brothers (1 Chron. 20:5).
Abram (Abraham) was told by the Lord that he would establish an everlasting covenant with him and his descendants, symbolized by circumcision, and that all nations would be blessed in him (Gen. 17:1–14; 18:18). Jesus fulfilled this by bringing salvation to all people. God renamed Sarai “Sarah” (17:15). Both names mean “princess.” God said she would be a mother of nations and kings (17:16).
Hagar was Sarah’s Egyptian maid. She hated Sarah (Gen. 16:1–4).
Abraham took Keturah for his wife after the death of Sarah (Gen. 25:1).
Lot was the father of his grandsons, Moab and Ben-Ammi (Gen. 19:31–38).

Rachel, the mother of Joseph, died giving birth to Benjamin (Gen. 35:16–20).
Moab is the father of the Moabites (Gen. 19:37).
Ben-Ammi is the father of the Ammonites (Gen. 19:38).
Because Abraham was willing to sacrifice his only son, God promised that all nations of the earth would be blessed through Isaac (Gen. 22:15–18).
Beeri and Elon were Hittites, descendants of Canaan (Gen. 26:34).
Esau, the firstborn and twin brother to Jacob, is also known as Edom, the father of the Edomites (Gen. 36:9, 43). He sold his birthright to Jacob (25:30–33).
Seeing that his Canaanite wives displeased his parents, Esau wed Mahalath and Basemath, daughters of Ishmael (Gen. 28:8–9; 36:3).
Jacob was renamed “Israel” by God (Gen. 32:28), and blessed (Gen. 35:9–15). It was prophesied, “A star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel” (Num. 24:17). Jesus is the fulfillment of this prophecy (Matt. 2:2; Heb. 1:8; Rev. 22:16).
Zilpah was Leah’s servant (Gen. 29:24).
Bilhah was Rachel’s servant (Gen. 29:29).
Reuben was the firstborn son of Leah, the firstborn of Jacob (Israel). On his deathbed, Jacob called Reuben excellent in dignity and power, but said he would never excel because of his relationship with Jacob’s concubine, Bilhah (Gen. 49:3–4).
Simeon was the son of Leah, the second son of Israel (Gen. 29:33). He is known for his cruelty (49:5).

Judah was the son of Leah, the fourth son of Israel (Gen. 29:35). Jacob predicted that all of Judah’s brothers would praise him and that the scepter (the kingship) would not depart from his family. This prediction is fulfilled in Jesus Christ, the King of Kings and Lion of Judah (Gen. 49:10; Mic. 5:2; Heb. 1:8).
Dan was the son of Bilhah, the fifth son of Israel (Gen. 30:6). He is called a judge of his people and a serpent (49:16–17).

Benjamin was the second son of Rachel, the twelfth son of Israel (Gen. 35:16–20). He is called a ravenous wolf (49:27).
Korah, Dathan, Abiram and On revolted against Moses and, because of their rebellion, they and all that belonged to them were swallowed alive by the earth (Num. 16:1–34).
Samson loved Delilah (Judg. 16:4). Samson was a judge of Israel for twenty years (15:20).
Shaul was the son of a Canaanite woman (Ex. 6:15).
Jochebed was the daughter of Levi, sister to Kohath, and wife of Amram, her nephew. She was the mother of Aaron and Moses (Ex. 6:20).

Jonathan, the grandson of Moses, and his sons served as priests to an idol set up by the tribe of Dan (Judg. 18:30).
Tamar had twins, Perez and Zerah. While being born, Zerah extended his hand and a midwife tied a scarlet thread around his wrist, thinking he would be firstborn. His twin, Perez, was delivered first and is in Jesus’ lineage (Gen. 38).
Anna was a prophetess of the tribe of Asher who blessed the child Jesus (Luke 2:36–38).
Caleb was one of the spies who was sent to the land of Canaan to find out what the land was like. He brought back an encouraging report. Because he followed the Lord, he was given the city of Hebron as an inheritance (Josh. 14:14).
Jarha is the Egyptian servant of Sheshan (1 Chron. 2:34–35). Sheshan had no sons, so he wedded one of his daughters to Jarha.
Bezalel crafted the ark of the covenant and other furnishings in the tabernacle (Ex. 31:1–11).
Gideon blew a trumpet to free Israel from the Midianites (Judg. 7:18).

Abimelek burned 1,000 of them to death. Abimelek later was mortally wounded when a woman dropped a millstone on his head (Judg. 9:52–55).
Ezer and Elead were killed because they were cattle rustlers (1 Chron. 7:21).
Jephthah promised God that if he won a battle, he would sacrifice the first thing to come out the door when he returned home. His only child, a daughter, was the first to welcome him home (Judg. 11:30–40).
Uzzah was killed for touching the Ark of the Covenant while attempting to prevent it from falling from an ox cart (2 Sam. 6:6–7). Only Levites were allowed to carry the Ark (Deut. 10:8).
Bithiah is an Egyptian princess, the daughter of Pharaoh (1 Chron. 4:18).
Sheba led a rebellion against King David and hid in the city of Abel Beth Maakah. The citizens of that city cut off Sheba’s head in exchange for peace. (2 Sam. 20).
One of Naomi’s sons, either Mahlon or Kilion, was Ruth’s first husband. Both sons died (Ruth 1:3–5). Ruth married Boaz, a kinsman redeemer, in Bethlehem. Their son Obed became the father of Jesse (4:13–22).
Isaiah prophesied that a descendant of Jesse would be one whom the Gentiles would seek and would be filled with God’s spirit (Isa. 11:1–10; Rom. 15:12).
Saul and his son Jonathan loved David (1 Sam. 16:21; 20:17, 41; 2 Sam. 1:26). But later in life Saul wanted to kill David because he was jealous of David’s success in battle (1 Sam. 18:8–11).
After the death of King Saul, Abner revolted against King David. He wanted the throne to return to the family of King Saul. Abner was killed by Joab, King David’s nephew (2 Sam. 3:6–27).
Jonathan, the son of Saul, loved David as he loved his own soul (1 Sam. 18:1–3; 19:2; 20:4, 17).
