Biography: EUGENE V. ROZGONYI, JR.
Eugene Rozgonyi was named Vice President and Chief Risk Officer of AGL resources in November 2001. He has
over 25 years experience with trading and risk management in the energy, commodity and financial markets.
Upon graduating from Regis University in Denver, Colorado with a degree in Economics, he joined Tudor
Investment Corporation in New York as a commodity floor trader, floor broker, and analyst. Mr. Rozgonyi, went
on to become an independent trader in the energy, metals, and financial futures markets acting as both a “local”
floor trader and an executing floor broker. In 1993, with the introduction of electricity futures on the New York
Mercantile Exchange, he was one of the first independent traders to execute electricity futures contracts and to
offer floor brokering services to utilities across the country while also assisting them with their risk management
and hedging strategies. Shortly thereafter, as a result of his unique experience, he was recruited by Xcel Energy, a
Fortune 500 utility, and for several years led its unregulated wholesale power and natural gas risk management
initiatives. He later joined CQG Inc., an industry leader that provides analytics software and trading solutions
globally to 90 exchanges and over 100 banks in 67 countries. He was responsible for implementing and launching
new products and services targeted at energy traders worldwide.
As AGL Resources’ Chief Risk Officer, Mr. Rozgonyi has built upon his success during the early years of
deregulation and has led the development of new policies, processes and procedures to embed risk management
throughout the company. AGL Resources has been cited as having one of the most evolved enterprise risk
management (ERM) programs in the energy industry. Mr. Rozgonyi has also been successful in developing and
fostering a new corporate culture that embraces, facilitates and values enterprise risk management and the
contribution it makes to the various operating units as well as to the overall company. His responsibilities include
development and oversight of all enterprise wide risk management and risk control activities including risks
related to the company’s unregulated trading, asset management, weather, operations and treasury. He has created
a “pipeline” of relevant reporting that gathers data along a process that begins with what can initially be the
complicated and nuanced area of transaction/deal entry, followed by uniquely transforming that data, broadening
it with enterprise wide risk assessments, and finally delivering it as simple and coherent risk reporting to various
operating groups, and personal and eloquently delivered Board of Director presentations.
Mr. Rozgonyi currently serves as on the Board of Directors of Georgia Natural Gas (Chair) and the Commodity
Markets Council, a Washington D.C. think tank and trade association. He has also served on the Board of
Directors for Senior Housing Options of Colorado and the New York Mercantile Exchange Charitable
Foundation. He completed the NASD Series 3 National Commodity Futures Exam (1984), has ethics
certifications and has held memberships on the New York Mercantile Exchange, the Commodity Exchange Inc.,
and two divisions of the New York Board of Trade: the New York Futures Exchange and the Financial Instrument
Exchange.
Over the years, Mr. Rozgonyi has been a periodic volunteer at the University of Houston’s Bauer College of
Business for the education of MBA students studying energy market trading and practices and has lectured on risk
management in the distinguished leadership series at the Foster School of Business at the University of
Washington. He has also acted as an industry consulting expert for a New York law firm. He was recognized by
Pat Wood, former Chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), for his contributions
assisting in their efforts to ensure accurate, reliable and transparent industry reporting for increased market
liquidity, energy price discovery, and the reporting of natural gas and electricity price indices.
