Rover Dramawerks: Still Taking Chances

Parker Conley is a thirteen year old seventh grader at Pioneer Heritage Middle School in Frisco, Texas. This is his first production with Rover Dramawerks, and he would like to thank all the actors, Lisa, and Erin for being his supporting tour guides in this wonderful adventure. Parker has been in several productions with Anton Bucher at Pioneer Heritage, Lion and the Mouse (Mongoose in a Red Cap), School House Rock (George), Othello (Iago), The Readiness is All (Chad/Attendant) and King and I (Phra Alack). Parker hopes that this is the start of many more roles to come. Kimberly “Kacy” Corbett is a theatre consultant for Schuler Shook, designing a variety of spaces to house performing arts and worship functions around the country. Kacy stays current on the needs for these spaces through her freelance work as a designer and technician. She has worked for various companies as production manager, technical director, stage manager, designer, and technician. Her scenic design of You Can’t Take It with You at Garland Civic Theatre won a 2007 Column Award. Kacy is a MFA graduate of the Yale School of Drama and is an active member of the United States Institute of Theatre Technology (USITT) and the Entertainment Services and Technology Association (ESTA) Technical Standards Program. Suzi Cranford is working with Rover Dramawerks for the fourth time. Her designs were previously seen in Shakespeare in Hollywood, Around the World in 80 Days, and Epic Proportions. Suzi is the associate designer at Dallas Costume Shoppe. Manuel Cruz has appeared on stage with Teatro Dallas, Addison Center Theatre, and Dallas Theater Center, in a summer internship. This is his first appearance with Rover Dramawerks, and he will be seen in an upcoming Ambit Energy commercial. He received his BA Magna cum Laude in Communications with an emphasis in Theater at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi and has been training with the Dallas Theater Center's Adult Education courses. Lisa Devine is the Associate Artistic Director for Rover Dramawerks and is an Artistic Advisor for the off-Broadway company Theatre East. Last October she proudly directed the off-Broadway New York Premiere of Eye of God. Her work with Tim Blake Nelson began with the Southwest Premiere of Eye of God at the University of Oklahoma. She directed the Midwest Premiere in Chicago for Profiles Theatre in Chicago, which enjoyed a 6 month run, received rave reviews and numerous Joseph Jefferson Nominations including Best Director. Highlights of her professional directing career include: directing several World Premieres, directing Tony Award winner John Cullum, modernizing a musical in conjunction with the Richard Rogers Estate, being mentored by Producer Max Weitzenhoffer, hosting playwrights Steven Dietz and Stephen Massicotte, as well as numerous production and teaching awards. A veteran director and acting coach, Lisa has directed and taught in Houston, Chicago, Norman OK, Philadelphia, and Dallas for 17 years. She is on faculty at Collin College. Claude Diaz is so happy to be working again for Rover, having previously worked on Rabbit Hole, Around the World in 80 Days, and Epic Proportions. He says: “After a long career in film and T.V., this is the best way to end my pro life. My thanks to Carol Rice and Rover.” A two time Column award winner, Richard Frohlich has designed sound for more than 50 productions at over a dozen area theaters since 2005. In 2001 he founded the award-winning Texas Radio Theatre Company. In addition to sound design, Richard is a video producer, graphic and flash animation designer specializing in vocational and training programs. He makes his home in Arlington, Texas with his wife Shannan and their three children.

Matt Gunther returns to the stage for another helping of Rover Dramawerks. He just can’t seem to push himself away from this table, it seems. Previous servings have been the recent Rabbit Hole, and from a few years back, Two Rooms. These have been salt and peppered along the way with a pinch or two of One Day Onlys. Of course, these sumptuous outings wouldn’t be possible without his wonderful wife Penny, who greets him at the door every day dressed in pearls and a smile, with a drink in one hand the paper in the other, as every dutiful wife should. God Bless America. Terrie Justus has been a part of the Rover scene since 2002, as a performer, properties designer, producer and board member. She has performed in Lady Windermere’s Fan, two productions of War of the Worlds, Greasy Spork at WaterTower’s Out of the Loop Festival, Little Footsteps, and The Runner Stumbles. She appeared in the title role of last season’s opening production of Veronica’s Room, for which she achieved critical acclaim, and was named one of the top ten performances of the year in Pegasus News. She served as producer for the regional premiere of Morphic Resonance, and last year for Days of Wine and Roses. Terrie has provided props for Claptrap, Spider’s Web, Love from a Stranger, Surviving Grace, The Runner Stumbles, and Star Spangled Girl. Born and raised in Northern California, Rich Machado backed into acting when he reluctantly accepted an invitation to audition for a church play. Since being bit by the bug, Rich has acted in multiple stage productions and countless “vignettes” with The Kings Players. He moved to Dallas in 2005 and has performed locally with The Core Theatre and Rover Dramawerks. This is Rich’s third time on the Rover stage, and he has yet to get his eye poked out.

Hair/Make-up/Wardrobe for the upcoming film, Ticked-off Trannies with Knives, which premiered at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival. Having recently moved to Dallas, she is excited to work with Rover Dramawerks for the first time! Joe Porter has been involved in Dallas theatre for seven years. He's worked with the Mesquite Community Theatre, Rotunda Theatre, Garland Civic Theatre, Pocket Sandwich Theatre, and Frisco Community Theatre. His role in Everything in the Garden is his fifth appearance on the Rover stage, having appeared in the Rover productions of Woman In Mind, Surviving Grace, Veronica's Room, and Around The World in 80 Days. Shannon Rasmussen was most recently seen in TeCo's new play festival. Shannon has a BA in Arts and Performance from UTD and is currently pursuing her Masters degree. She has performed with the Dallas Children's Theater, Pocket Sandwich Theatre, Garland Civic Theatre, Richardson Theatre Centre, NM Productions, Frisco Community Theater, Collin College, and TWU. This will mark Shannon's Rover debut. Carol M. Rice is the Artistic Director of Rover Dramawerks, as well as one of the co-founders, and has been involved in some way with every show Rover has done. She most recently directed Rover’s hits A Murder, A Mystery & A Marriage, Epic Proportions, Shakespeare in Hollywood and Gilligan’s Island: the Musical. Some of favorite acting roles include Susan in Woman in Mind (Rover), Gwyneth in Wrens (Bucket Productions), and Aquanessa in 20,000 Babes Beneath the Sea (Pocket Sandwich Theatre). She is especially thrilled to be revisiting Jenny again, having played the role in Rover’s premiere production of Everything in the Garden ten years ago. Carol is also a playwright, and Rover presented her World Premiere adaption of Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days at the Courtyard Theater last March, and her adaptation of The Three Musketeers was recently published by Next Stage Press. Despite her absolute love of theatre, her favorite roles are Wife to best friend Jason and Mommy to Stephen and Scott. Dona Safran is very happy to be working with Rover for the first time. She has a B.A in Theatre from the University of Texas and has taken courses at HB Studio in New York and KD Studio in Dallas. She has acted for 11th Street Theatre Company, Bucket Productions, and acted and directed for Pocket Sandwich Theatre. She has given voice to space rangers for Texas Radio Theatre and nearly all the wicked witches for Slappy's Puppet Playhouse. Dona thanks her husband, Joe, for too many things to mention here.

Mary Tiner is in her first role at Rover Dramawerks. She received her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in vocal performance from Southern Methodist University. She has performed in vocal recitals and opera throughout the United States, Canada and Austria. Mary’s other local stage experience includes the roles of Abby Brewster in Arsenic and Old Lace at the McKinney Repertory Theatre and Mrs. Boyle in The Mousetrap at Garland Civic Theatre. She has maintained a private voice studio since 1980. She wishes to thank her family, friends, cast and crew for their love and support. After graduating from KD Studio Actors Conservatory Rover quickly became Jarod Warren’s home away from home, seeing his participation in several of their projects. On the side, he runs Branding Iron Films and is a senior writer for themoviepool.com. He is over-the-moon to finally be working with visionary director Lisa Devine and such an amazingly inspirational cast. His performance is dedicated to his Father. Amy Wells holds a B.F.A. in Musical Theatre with a minor in vocal performance from UNT. This is her first performance with Rover Dramawerks. She has also worked at the Pocket Sandwich Theater, Lyric Stage, Casa Manana, Plano Family Arts, Garland Summer Musicals, Music Theater of Denton, Denton Community Theater, and Artisan Theater Center. “Thank you Carol, Lisa, Erin, and the cast for making this such a delightful straight play journey.” Erin Marie Williams is excited to work with Rover Dramawerks for the first time. She has a BFA in Theatre - Acting and Directing, Summa Cum Laude, from Sam Houston State University. She has worked extensively in the arts as a dancer, choreographer, jazz vocalist, dramaturg, event planner, and fundraiser. She will be getting married at the end of June and wishes to thank her friends, family, and most of all God who have made all of this possible.
