Customisation

Customisation in games is vital for success, take World of Warcraft for example almost all aspects are customisable the blow two screenshots are keybindings where almost anything can be assigned and changed to any key on the keyboard, the right picture is of a talent tree, as you can see there are tons of options on which a user can pick where you can match it to your playstyle.

CustomisationThe second part of customisation in games is to ‘show off’ and the customisation of interfaces to a users preference, on the left there is a screenshot from APB: Reloaded where a user can design their own car and then drive it around the game world with the purpose to ‘show off’. The screenshot on the right is a UI (Interface) where a user can put their abilities in any order and choose to use any they wish.

Exploration

Exploration is a key faction in a games success, players play games for PvE and PvP but the exploration is a underrated feature even though players do not typically look for exploration when buying a game without it the game would not be successful. The left screenshot is a user getting a reward for exploration, a achievement. The right is a map of a game, with a lot of land to explore.

Loading Screens

Loading screens play a vital part in games, the screenshot on the left describes the Lore of a game, what the game is about and the story behind it. The screenshot on the right shows the game world. What players can expect ingame when they are ready to play.

Progression: GearObtaining gear drives a lot of players to play their selected game, it gives a sense of achievement when you get that all import piece. The screenshot on the left is a player getting cosmetic gear, it gives no advantage over other players but allows them to display something they tried hard to get. The screenshot on the right is about obtaining better gear to hit harder and obtain a advantage over other players.

Character selection screen

Character selection screen has changed so much. The screenshot on the left lets a user display multiple characters and choose a different one each time they want to play. The screenshot on the right is a older arena game where a user can pick one character in a game and then choose after.

Quests

Quests are a way of progression in games which normally provide rewards or experience. The screenshot to the left is a user getting directions to finish the quest and the right shot is a quest tab where users can store more then one quest.

Player VS Player

Player VS player (PVP) is a common element in MMOs or battle arena games where players go into battle and one side wins, often dependent on gear and the skill level of the players

Player VS Environment

Player VS Environment (PVE) is for players who do not like PVP or simply for players who enjoy both, PVE is more dependent on lore and obtaining better gear to progress through different instances.

Music: Halo 3

Halo 3’s music is heavily dedicated to lore, although it contains no words you get the sense of a struggle and fight from the background video and present music. The music was iconic to the franchise.

Toxikk is a upcoming game built around the classic player vs player games which where released pre 2002 where minimal progression is actually present. The trailer presents gameplay and game features and not any lore like most trailers contain.

Assassins Creed 3 trailer provides no game play, the trailer only shows a cinematic which represents lore in the game. It shows the overall story of the game on how one many can change anything not dependent on what he faced.
