FXXIDIDEAS—Dilly1. We are out in the middle of an open field. There is a hairless cat sitting on top of a llama that is wearing a top hat and a scarf. The llama is not bothered by the cat sitting on it as it continues to chew on grass. This is an oddball, unexplained image you could relate to a show like Wilfred, Baskets, or Better Things. It’s off-the-cuff sort of humor that is hilarious for being weird, but could be interpreted as subtle intellectual symbolism. 2. We focus on a doggy door meant for a small to medium dog. We can infer that we are inside a house from the medium close up shot of the doggy door that reveals a tiled or wooden floor and colored walls. An armadillo walks through the doggy door into the house, walking past the camera. Right as the armadillo moves past the doggy door, the FXX logo is there, centered on the doggy door flaps. Once the doggy door flaps come to a standstill, the scene cuts to black, ending. This goes into the unexpected attribute of FX where, with many shows, it is never what you expect or can even guess such as Legion or American Horror Story.

FXXIDIDEAS—Dilly3. We are in a stereotypical, boring cubicle office. A woman in her business attire sits behind her desk, speaking into an office phone. She is speaking in gibberish, but it comes across as totally normal for her. We cut to a goat also in a stereotypical cubical, holding an office phone to its ear with its hoof. The goat is wearing a tie and glasses. On the back of the telephone is the FXX logo. Again, this goes into the unexpected attribute of FXX along with the creative aspect where things are never predictable and always original.

4. Just a shot of a yellow exercise ball slowly deflating with an indiscernible backdrop. As it deflates, the noise it produces is an ongoing cow’s moos. The FXX logo pops up as the ball deflates. Aside from it being odd that cow noises are being produced from the ball’s deflation, the simplicity of the shot equates to FX’s trademark simplicity within many of their shows, such as Baskets, Louie, and Fargo. The humor is sort of offbeat.

5. We are in a child’s room, which is filled with toys, storybooks, games, and stuffed animals. There is a miniature, green table set with chairs in the center of the room. A plush bear is alive and playing tea party with something. As we cut to a close up shot of what the plush bear is playing, it is revealed to be real life humans the size of Barbie dolls. The plush bear continues to play tea party with the humans. It’s a role reversal of the child playing the game with her toys. There could be

FXXIDIDEAS—Dillycreepy, children’s music playing in during the scene. The creepiness in the scene is reminiscent of American Horror Story and it reinforces FX’s willingness to be frightening and answer “what if” questions. 6. We see a person getting ready to go on a flight. Right as the person leaves their house, they check their wrist for the time to make sure they aren’t running late. We cut to a shot of the person’s wrist and see a spaghetti noodle wrapped around the person’s wrist. Then we cut back to the person’s shocked expression and see them run off with their suitcase in tow. This is just a WTF ID that suits FX’s out-of-left-field, bold programming. 7. We start on a shot of a dachshund’s butt and slowly start to pan toward its midsections; however, the midsection has been replaced with a pool noodle. As we continue to pan sideways, at the end of the pool noodle is the dachshund’s head. We get a wide shot to show the morphed dachshund with the logo FXX on the noodle. It’s strange, yet humorous, which is much of the FX network’s vibe.

FXXIDIDEAS—Dilly 8. We see a food truck racing down a residential street and a pack of dogs running after it during the broad daylight. The food truck is on fire. From the sidewalk, we see a hot dog just watching the whole scene. We see the back shot of the dogs running after the truck with the hot dog sipping on coffee, and in the sky, the logo FXX appears. This is very WTF scene and unexplainable to the viewers, but it further proves the odd, unthinkable humor that FX has to offer. 9. We see a regular car, parked on the street as its alarm is going off. However, the car alarm is the sound of dolphins speaking. Again, the simplicity and the weirdness of the entire situation go hand-in-hand with FX’s many hilarious scenes that are simple, yet irregular.

10. We see an iguana lying on its back with sunglasses and a sun reflector in its claws. It is lying on a small red chair, perfect for its size. As the camera zooms out, we see the iguana is lying on the back of a Labrador retriever. The spot has some sense of reality to it given the cold-blooded reptile needing sun, but the outlandish act of a reptile sunbathing like a human being on top of a dog gives it skews the reality that FX does often with many of its programs.

FXXIDIDEAS—Dilly 11. A profile shot of a mime is driving an invisible car, and it functions as if it is a real car with the engine being audible. The mime stops at a red light, and we see through the “window” of the mime’s car a herd of giraffes crossing the street, using the crosswalk. We focus on the mime’s face to see that the mime is making a shocked face, dramatic and exaggerated. The FXX logo is painted on its eyes as oppose to the vertical lines across its eyes. Like most of the other ID’s, this scene is an oddball, eliciting the avant-garde aesthetic that FX often takes on. The strongest correlation for this is Baskets.
