Fundraising is Fun Presented by Stephanie Clausen-Kubarth, OT, Program Director, Certified Riding Instructor and Wendy Miklaszewski, OT Midwest Therapeutic Riding Program Our objective in this session is to share fundraising ideas; what works, what doesn’t, things you’ve tweaked to make your fundraisers better and what’s been a bomb! We want you to share your ideas too! Fundraising Gala Capsule table We all do these, dinner and a silent or live auction. We all get items donated that we wonder what in the world are we going to do with that?! We’ve come up with a method that is not only fun for the attendees but a nice way to offer these items in a fun profitable way. We call it our capsule table. We take those items and beautifully wrap them. Along with some of those ‘interesting’ donations, be sure to include items you’d like to win. Our sign says “buy some pills and help pay the vet bills.” We utilize capsules donated by a pharmacy, roll up small pieces of paper that either blank or have a smiley face on it. A Smiley face means you’ve won a prize. The winner then gets to pick out a package from the table. We sell 1 for $5, 3 for $10 or 10 for $20. Our guests always love this and it gets them interacting with each other. Invitations We changed our invitation to our Gala from a traditional invitation to more of a fundraising letter. The results were astounding. We increased donations by 50%. Attached is an example.

Capsule table

We all do these, dinner and a silent or live auction.

Invitations

We changed our invitation to our Gala from a traditional invitation to more of a fundraising letter. The results were astounding. We increased donations by 50%.

Art projects

This is an interesting one for us. As OT’s we love to have our riders do fine motor activities! The best one we’ve done is a painted glass with a horse on it. One of our riders designed the horse. Others trace it. Even our most involved riders get to help.

We have sold these at horse shows and at saddle shops during Christmas season. Not only has this proven quite profitable, but it has also raised awareness of our center in the horse community. One breed organization even used our glasses for trophies for their three-day horse show!

We have also made horse head wreaths.

Purse party

This one is so easy and so much fun. And a bit dangerous if you like purses! You’ll want them all for yourself!

Put the word out that you are taking new or like new purse donations. You’ll be amazed at how many you’ll get. We then had volunteers go over all of them to make sure they were empty, clean, and in good condition.

On the high-end purses, such as Coach, we used them in a silent auction. The other purses, we set up tables of $5, $10, etc. We had our purse sale in our indoor arena. We promoted it just using social media and word of mouth. We made about $2000 in two hours.

The group we heard about this fundraiser from, did a tea along with the purse sale. They raised $10,000 in four hours. They promoted theirs in the newspaper and radio spots and charged a fee to enter.

Horse Show

We host our own horse show for our riders in our indoor arena. The stress is decreased for horses and riders since it’s ‘home.” Riders are required to get pledges to be able to show. We also get sponsors for the show. Along with the show, we offer food, coffee, etc. We stopped pricing food a number of years ago, instead we place donations jars at each food table. It has proven to be a much better method to elicit donations.

Attached are forms about our horse show.

On Saturday, October 10, 2015 Midwest Therapeutic Riding Program will be hosting the Goodie Memorial HorseShow for riders with special needs. As children with special needs usually don’t get a chance to participate in horseshows, this is a special event for them. We are working hard at making this horse show a great success and areexpecting many participants and spectators to attend our horse show.

Please help us make our event a success by considering a donation to MTRP to offset the costs associated with thehorse show. Your tax-deductible contribution will be acknowledged at the horse show and will make a realdifference to the children in our community.

Please consider one of these ways to help in the sucess of our event:

• Underwrite costs associated with the event with a sponorship• Purchase an ad in our event program• Sponsor a class in the horse show

I hope we can work together to continue MTRP’s tradition of helping children with special needs. Thank you verymuch in advance for your consideration. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 262.859.2240,or e-mail me at [email protected]. I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

Stephanie KubarthProgram Director

GoodieMemorial

HorseShow

Dear Parents:

On Saturday, October 10, 2015, Midwest Therapeutic Riding Program will once again host the “GoodieMemorial Horse Show.”

The “Goodie Memorial Horse Show” will have two purposes: to allow all our riders to participate in a horseshow and to raise funds for MTRP. Each therapeutic riding lesson costs MTRP $94.48. That’s $94.48 to make ithappen! A therapeutic rider pays only $30. That means MTRP must raise the other $64.48.

Like last year this event will be exciting for all the riders. Every child will win a trophy in their class and a photographerwill be on hand to take their picture. Riders can also earn prizes for the amount of pledges they receive.

We would love for all our riders to participate! The only requirement we are requesting from riders is to raise a minimumof $100 in pledges to participate in the horse show which includes a free t-shirt. Raise a minimum of $500 and receive25% back of the amount you raise in MTRP riding credits. Example: Raise $1000: $1000 x 25% = $250. $250 will be credited to your account for future riding lessons. All monies and forms must be turned in by September 19, 2015to count toward prizes and to participate in the show. Unfortunately, we can not make any exceptions to thiscutoff date.

Please consider participating in the “Goodie Memorial Horse Show”. This will be a great event that your childwill enjoy while at the same time helping out MTRP. If you have any questions please call Stephanie at262.859.2240. With your help we can “Make Dreams Come True.”

With Gratitude,

Stephanie KubarthProgram Director

What is MTRP?Imagine a place where children with special needs can be themselves. They can bond with a special horse and develop lifelong relationships.Imagine a place where these children can leave behind their crutches, wheel chairs, and therapies to soar to freedom. Imagine a place wheredreams really do come true. When children ride their horse, theybecome independent. They fill the arena with signals or commands to “walk on” or “trot” and the air is filled with laughter and shrieks ofglee. Most of all, the children at MTRP are learning essential life skills, such as talking, signing, walking and focusing on their therapies.

Making Dreams Come True!

Our mission …Improving the lives of children with special needsthrough equine facilitated activities: providing individualized care to maximize the child’s potential.
