YOUR GUIDE TO FUNDRAISING
FOR ZIMKIDS
BRIGHTER FUTURES FOR VULNERABLE CHILDREN IN ZIMBABWE
FIRSTLY...THANK YOU!
We are so pleased you are considering fundraising for Zimkids, we know you will really enjoy it! Whatever you decide to do please know that every penny raised counts and we are so grateful for any amount received. At Zimkids we support both children and their families and we do this through four objectives which are all in need of funds:
SELF-SUFFICIENCY: Helping people find their own way out of poverty by teaching them skills and providing resources.
RELIEF OF POVERTY: Providing families with emergency healthcare, food and accommodation when they are in desperate need.
SCHOOL EDUCATION: Enabling children to attend school through paying for school fees, uniforms and stationery and running a Saturday school for those needing extra support.
DEVELOPING FAITH: Offering counselling and bible study to all families that would like it.
BE INSPIRED...
We have had lots of Shamwaris (Friends of Zimkids) raising money for us in lots of different ways over the years and we hope the following will inspire you...
SPONSORSHIP Ask your family, friends and colleagues to sponsor you to do something wacky and wonderful for Zimkids. We’ve had people sky-dive, participate in a ‘sleep like a Zimkid’ evening, trek round Europe, and individuals have done all sorts of running events including the Dubai Marathon. We can supply you with good old fashioned sponsorship forms or you can set up a fundraising page within ours at www.everyclick.com/zimkids.
COLLECTIONS
Organise a collection in a local business, school, train station or even just on the high street. You’ll need to obtain a licence from the relevant authorities but this is a great way to raise some quick cash! It helps if you dress up in something eye-catching too!!
EVENTS
Plan an exciting event in your school, workplace or community. Whether you charge an entrance fee, have a raffle or charge for food and drink, this is a great way to raise both awareness and funds. We’ve had people hold yummy bake sales, auction of promises evenings, pub quizzes and even jazz concerts. Whatever your passion is you can make an event out of it - go for it!!
FIVE STEPS TO SUCCESS...
STEP ONE...PLAN
So whether it’s an event, sponsored activity or a street collection the key to success is planning. Things to think about; WHERE? The venue is key, think about how many people you’ll be expecting and
remember if you’re hiring a venue to tell them you’re raising money for Zimkids and they may give you a charity discount. Also, please consider from whom you might need permission or licenses.
WHEN? Timing is very important, think about your audience and whether an evening,
weekend or daytime event would suit them best. Consider holding an event after payday so people are feeling more generous and not too near to Christmas when they're not! WHO? Make sure you have plenty of support around you, the more volunteers, the less
you’ll have to do on the day. And make sure you invite everyone you know: your colleagues, family, friends, neighbours, church friends - the more the merrier.
STEP TWO...PREPARE
Hold an initial meeting with your confirmed volunteers to decide on a date, book a suitable venue and create a checklist for jobs that need doing. Try to delegate jobs to your team as much as possible, you need to be free on the day to deal with anything that crops up.
FIVE STEPS TO SUCCESS...
STEP THREE...PROMOTE
Begin to publicise your event as soon as your venue, date and times are secured. Save-the-dates are a great way of getting people to put the date in their diaries. You can’t publicise too much so ask local businesses/churches/community groups if they’ll put a flyer in their window, post flyers through local houses, put it on twitter/facebook/email etc etc etc...
STEP FOUR...PROFIT
Depending on the type of event you may want to maximise your fundraising by having lots of different ways of making money, eg. entrance fees, raffle tickets, cash bar, food stalls, collection tins etc. And don’t forget to publicise our ‘textgiving’ code (Simply text ZIMK01 £2 / £5 / £10 to 70070. eg ZIMK01 £5) so that people can donate whilst at the event. Another great way to get ‘free’ money is to give out Gift Aid envelopes and receive an extra 25p for every £1 donated by a tax payer.
STEP FIVE.....PAT YOURSELF ON THE BACK! Events are a lot of fun so on the day make sure you can spend a moment sitting back, enjoying the event and pat yourself on the back for your efforts. You are now a fully-fledged Shamwari!
FINAL TIPS...
KEEPING US INVOLVED
We would love to support you in any way we can, whether it’s by providing you with some fundraising ideas, explaining what Zimkids does or providing you with a speaker for your event. We will do our best to support you as much as we possibly can. Please bear in mind that you are fundraising ‘for Zimkids’ rather than putting on a ‘Zimkids event’, we have to be quite careful with the wording—speak to [email protected] for advice.
COLLECTING THE MONEY
Where possible please pay your money into one bank account and then write us a cheque (made payable to “Zimkids”) with the total amount. You can also set up your own individual online fundraising page, go to http://www.everyclick.com/zimkids to find out how.
SAYING THANK YOU
Remember to thank all of the volunteers that have supported you as well as the donors and let us know who they are too so we can tell them what a difference their help has made to Zimkids. If you send us some pictures and some information about your fundraiser we can put it in our newsletter and on our website too!
RESOURCES...
We want your event to be a massive success so we’d be happy to provide you with some resources; however, for some we will have to make a small charge as we’re only a small charity and don’t have surplus funds for these kind of materials. Please see below for ideas on what we can provide you with:
COLLECTION TINS
We have four lovely snazzy sealed collection tins that we can loan to you as long as you promise to shake them really loudly!
T-SHIRTS
We can provide one t-shirt for free, after that they will be £5 each. If you’d just like to borrow t-shirts we can do that for free!
RUNNING VESTS
We can provide one running vest with your name printed on for free, after that they will be around £10 each.
BALLOONS
We will send you five free balloons, any more will cost 5p per balloon.
SPONSORSHIP FORMS
These are absolutely free!
ZIMKIDS FLYERS
We can print some flyers about our projects for your event for free too.
FEELING INSPIRED YET? If you feel inspired to put on a fundraiser for us please contact us at [email protected] or call us on +447906 320 950. We’d love to hear your ideas and to discuss how we can support you.
WE’RE LOOKING FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU!
