Dear Parents/ Caregivers,

ANZAC DAY COMMEMORATIONS Our school held a special Anzac Day assembly on Tuesday 24th April to pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of soldiers past and present, and to remember particularly the Anzacs who fought and died in the service of our country. The service was led by several of our student leaders, and included readings by students in year 1 Bishop, 4/3 Newman and 5 Long. Students spoke about the Anzac tradition which was born on the 25th of April, 1915, when the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula. We were honoured to be joined by Squadron Leader Mark Wilson, and Dr Catherine Trinder, our School Council Chair.

Our oldest Year 6 student, Jed Beard and youngest Transition student, Malakai Flowers represented all of us as they lay a wreath in honour of all Australians who have died in war, led by Squadron Leader Mark Wilson.

Squadron Leader Wilson addressed the assembly, speaking about how the Anzac tradition, and the ideals of courage, endurance and mateship are still relevant today, for each and every one of us in our daily lives. The tone of our assembly was solemn and respectful, with every one of our students representing our school values to an exceptional standard.

VISTING DELEGATION FROM LAO PDR (LAOS) Yesterday we welcomed 20 visiting delegates from Lao PDR (Laos) to observe classes in our school. The delegates are all educators working in various capacities in the Ministry of Education and Sport in Laos. They are all part of a fellowship program which Charles Darwin University is hosting for 5 weeks. The delegates spent time observing in classrooms while teachers and students carried on with their daily programs, and also spent time speaking with Mrs Baker Brown in the staffroom, asking many questions about our education system. Parap Primary is the first Australian school that these delegates have visited, and they were very grateful for the opportunity to see Australian teaching in action.

SCHOOL OVALS: We are very pleased to announce that the cleanup of our ovals after Cyclone Marcus has commenced. Tree experts have been employed to ensure that our beautiful trees are saved and ovals are safe. Our soccer oval has been reopened and we would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding during this time.

STUDENT VOICE: - 4/3 Davies ANZAC Day provided opportunities for discussion, posing questions and using the reading strategies of skimming and scanning to locate information. Students designed a War Memorial and described symbols and emblems that could be included.

Writing Last term, each student created a published piece of writing and were very proud to display their work. Peer editing proved to be popular with students helping others with their thoughtful and constructive feedback.

THE WELLBEING SHOW The Wellbeing Show entertained us today with an interactive performance highlighting positive behaviours and capabilities required for social, emotional, physical and academic success. During the performance, the presenters modelled and promoted the positive behaviours of developing positive relationships, working together, being confident, being a good listener, being well organised, being healthy and the benefits of laughter. And there was a lot of laughter during the show!
