NETWORK OF INQUIRY AND INNOVATION – Symposium Last Friday and Saturday, Mrs Baker Brown and I attended a conference in Brisbane. This two day event explored the importance and potential of professional collaboration and the use of Spirals of Inquiry for school and system improvement. Keynote Speakers include Dr Linda Kaser and Dr Judy Halbert, Network Leaders from British Columbia and other leaders from around Australia. Principals and Assistant Principals from Wagaman, Nakarra, Dripstone and Katherine also attended. Although it was very hectic we were able to spend time with many other leaders who shared their improvement journey. A highlight was on Saturday morning when teachers and students from Graceville State School came in and taught us about the inquiry process used in their classrooms. We are definitely looking forward to sharing our learning with our colleagues and adapting practices within our school.

SHARING SESSIONS Our Sharing sessions are one way in which our school works as a community to build a strong, positive culture of belonging and inclusion. Parents are invited into the classroom to join in their child’s lesson and experience first-hand what it feels like to be a learner at Parap Primary School. This week we enjoyed lessons designed around our Future-Focused learning approach. Future-Focused learning provides a learning framework, through which the skills of creative and critical thinking, are taught, aligned to the Australian Curriculum. Our lessons draw from the Essential Fluencies of innovative learning: Solution Fluency, Information Fluency, Creativity Fluency, Collaboration Fluency and Media Fluency. Through teaching these processes we are teaching the skills of the future –bringing the general capabilities of the Australian Curriculum to the classroom, enabling our students to acquire the skills and capabilities that our learners need for success in a rapidly changing world. Many parents will have enjoyed taking part in a lesson involving the 6Ds of Solution Fluency this week – Define, Discover, Dream, Design, Deliver and Debrief. Solution Fluency is a problem-solving process, through which students learn the specific skills they need to solve problems effectively, and are given the opportunity to solve real-world problems that matter to them. We hope everyone enjoyed their learning experience this week, and look forward to seeing many parents again at our next Sharing Sessions later in the year. For more information about the Essential Fluencies of Future-Focused Learning, visit www.globaldigitalcitizen.org and look for our school under ‘Success Stories’.
