THE OBJECTIVE OF VOCATIONAL SERVICE
Three of the four objectives of Rotary relate to Vocational
Service, highlighting its importance to the ethos of Rotary
activities.
Those objects are:
FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for
service;
SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions,
the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and
the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity
to serve society;
THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each
Rotarian’s personal, business and community life.
FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding,
goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business
and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
Paul Harris wrote: "Each Rotarian is a connecting link bet-
ween the idealism of Rotary and their trade or profession".
WHAT IS VOCATIONAL SERVICE?
Vocational Service is the way Rotary promotes and supports
the application of the Ideal of Service to the pursuit of all
profession and business.
THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR VOCATIONAL SERVICE
Vocational Service is the combined responsibility shared by the
Rotary Club and its members.
The role of the Club is to implement and encourage its own
actions in dealing with the community and by the develop-
ment of projects that encourages members to use their
professional talents in the service of the community. The role
of members is to conduct themselves and their businesses in
keeping with the ideals of Rotary, and support the Vocational
Service projects of the club.
VOCATIONAL SERVICE IN ROTARY CLUB OF DHAKA
The Rotary Club of Dhaka since its founding in 1937 has been
focusing on Vocational Service programs for service to the
society. Such programs offer excellent opportunities for
involvement with the local business and professional
community. This involvement led to creating of raised aware-
ness of Rotary activities to support and sponsor club's other
programs that help membership growth. Such programs have
created positive impact in the community in keeping with the
Rotary theme “Be a gift to the world.”
