+++AUCTION UPDATE+++

The auction committee is very busy selling raffle tickets, homemade pies and lanyards and collecting and cataloging the donations as they come in. The auction is NEXT week and they want everyone to participate by asking for donations and bringing a full table of guests. Every member has been billed $50 (auction assessment) which entitles you and a guest to attend the auction dinner and purchase any item that interests you. For an additional $50, you can fill a table with 6 more guests. (That is a real bargain!). Many thanks to these Rotarians who have already committed to a full table or two: Steve Fahrenkrog Mark Huse (2 tables) John Maxwell Jim Koehler (2 tables) Keith Mattke Angela Reese Steve Suiter Anita Wubbena Jeremy Kaiser Ken Tank Paul Seelau Marty O’Boyle Adam Kerns Randy Zobrist Seth Porter (17 tables)

RECENT RESIGNATIONS Dear Becky & Dennis: Though I regret telling you, I must step away from my membership in the North Scott Rotary Club. As you know, I will be retiring at the end of the year & I will be spending more time with my family, particularly those living out of town. I have thoroughly enjoyed my participation with Rotary, especially the Rotary Reads program. My best to everyone! Tracey Kuehl ………………………………………………………………… ALSO, Lee Ittenbach has resigned due to health reasons.

October 14, 2011 Diane Stanley: SCC Hospitality Management Diane Stanley is the lead instructor of the Hospitality Management program at Scott Community College. A brand new culinary arts building opened at the Bettendorf campus in 2010. The service industry is growing and more people have entered this growing industry. SCC offers the only Hotel Management apprenticeship program in the state of Iowa. As a student in this program, you only attend class, one day a week. All the other time is spent at a job, learning the skills needed. An Event Management certificate is also available at SCC. Each student in these programs must work at one community service event per year. The Hospitality club travels to Las Vegas and Chicago to become familiar with the venues in these cities. The students earn funds to pay their own way to these cities. Hands on experience are available on campus, as commercial laundry machines and a fully equipped bed room suite are located within the building. Fifty five members and guests attended on Friday. Guests included Clara Littig, guest of Teresa Paper, Kieran Connolly, guest of Chris Connolly and Garrett Paustian, guest of Leroy Paustian.

Jeremy Kaiser thanked all the members who helped at the Pride of the Wapsi the evening before. Nine organizations were represented with a little over 200 children. Every child received a knapsack, with a Rotary logo and a pair of warm gloves. Also a small pumpkin, walking taco and smores. It was a wonderful evening with great weather. Keith Mattke was the winner of $95 in the 50/50 drawing. Jim Koehler purchased a walnut raison pie for $125 and Rob White an apple pie for $100. Lanyards went to John Maxwell for $10 and Marty O’Boyle for $35. John Maxwell was the sergeant and collected $63. Eric Langan gave $40 for the 40th anniversary of CarpetLand USA.
