I hope you all had a restful half term and I know many families will have been celebrating Eid. You all know that I wrote to you earlier this week to explain that we will be opening on the 15th June to children in Nursery, Reception and Year 1 and on the 22nd June to children in Year 6. The letter is on our website. We are very busy with our preparations for the wider re-opening. We are also taking a further look at our home learning. Our analysis shows some classes have very different rates of pupils completing home learning regularly. We are therefore looking at ways to increase pupils’ learning at home. I do understand that all parents are trying their best under difficult circumstances and we want to do all we can to support you. Wishing you all a restful weekend. Headteacher’s Message

A warm welcome to our last half term of the academic year. Karen Khwaja Headteacher

Message Board From Staff

Ms Sesstein on her daily walk

Ms M Walls has been planting

Ms C Walls trying to blow Ms Siddique 2 metres away!

Things I have learnt during lockdown

I have learnt that there are really good people out

there; when things look bad we all come together,

help one another, appreciate each other, how strong

we are and can be, how adaptable and exceptional

we all are. It is important to forgive ourselves, to let

go of things. Having a positive attitude can change

your outlook on something and above all be kind to

yourself.

Ms Siddique

Hi everyone!

I'm Ms Cousins and when I'm not working in the school office I love to grow plants in my garden. Recently, I was planting some tomatoes when I noticed a tiny round disc in the soil, only about the size of a shirt button. It was dark brown and I thought it was just a piece of earth. However, something made me pick it up. I turned it over and rubbed it - and guess what? No, no genie appeared, but something nearly as exciting! I could see the outline of a woman's head. It was a coin! A really old coin! I rushed indoors and washed it carefully in a cup of water and what do you think? The date 1842 appeared! I was so thrilled. Although my coin isn't very valuable, it is so interesting that I'm going to do lots more digging in case I can find any more 'treasure'! Now - some questions for you: The date on the coin is 1842. Can you work out how old it is? There is a picture of a queen of England on one side of the coin. Can you find out what her name was? I wonder how the coin came to be in my flower bed - can you make up a story about what happened?

CHOCOLATE CAKE IN A MUG

This simple recipe requires only few ingredients; it is super fun to make and delicious to eat!

You will need : 4 tablespoons of self-rising flour

4 tablespoons of caster sugar 2 tablespoons of cocoa

1 egg 3 tablespoons of milk

3 tablespoons of sunflower oil a few drops of vanilla essence

Mix the flour, sugar and cocoa in a big mug and stir in the egg. Then, add all the other ingredients and mix well. You can also add chocolate chips, raisins or nuts if you want. Put the mug with the chocolate mixture into the microwave and cook for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes or until it’s firm on the top. Wait for it to cool down and enjoy. You could even make it into a competition with other members of your family to see who has got the tallest cake or have a ’virtual cook-off‘ with a friend as Ms Pericleous did (she wrote about in a previous issue).

Home Learning It is important that every child continues

to complete some schoolwork every school day. The school would like to say a

big thank you to all parents and other family members who have been

supporting their children with their work and also to the pupils themselves for all

their efforts while learning in such different circumstances.

Home learning tasks and activities for every class are updated weekly, every

Monday, on the school website at: https://

www.garfield.enfield.sch.uk/online-educational-websites/

Please login to see what your child needs to complete this week.
