Recycle For Sight
Forbes and District Lions Club recently
held their Recycle for Sight program in the
Forbes and Parkes Communities. This was
the 4th time this collection of used
Spectacles and sunglasses has been held
and has once again been a success with
403 pairs of spectacles collected. OPSM
and Parkes Optical Services collected 96
pairs while Phillip Wells Optometrists and
Eyeware Plus in Forbes collected 307.
These will now be forwarded to a centre
in Brisbane where they will be cleaned,
graded and forwarded for use in the Lions
Eye Projects in developing nations. Lions
would like to thank all those who
contributed used spectacles and also the
local Optometrists who acted as collection
points for the project.
Happy Birthday
Kim Fetherston—28th July

LIONS PRAYER
Will anyone be happier because we passed this way? Will anyone remember that we spoke to them today? Will a single heart rejoice over what we did or said?
Will one whose hopes were vanished now take courage and look ahead?
Will we waste the day or use it? Will it be well or poorly spent?
Will we leave a trail of kindness, or a scar of discontent?
As we close our eyes in slumber, do we think of God and say,
we have earned one more tomorrow by what we did today.
AMEN
A man was dining alone in a fancy restaurant and there was a gorgeous redhead sitting at the next table. He had been checking her out since he sat down, but lacked the nerve to talk with her. Suddenly she sneezed, and her glass eye came flying out of its socket towards the man. He reflexively reached out, grabbed it out of the air, and handed it back. 'Oh my, I am so sorry,' the woman said, as she popped her eye back in place. 'Let me buy your dinner to make it up to you.' They enjoyed a wonderful dinner together, and afterwards they went to the theatre followed by drinks. They talked, they laughed, she shared her deepest dreams and he shared his. She listened to him with interest. After paying for everything, she asked him if he would like to come to her place for a nightcap and stay for breakfast. They had a wonderful, wonderful time. The next morning, she cooked a gourmet meal with all the trimmings. The guy was amazed. Everything had been so incredible! 'You know,' he said, 'you are the perfect woman. Are you this nice to every guy you meet? 'No,' she replies 'You just happened to catch my eye.'
The Australian Lions Visual Independence Foundation
Australian Lions Visual Independence Foundation is an Australian not for profit charity whose aim it is to: “bring happiness to the blind and low visioned Australians through the use of assistive /adaptive technology” In recent times, technology has developed to empower the blind and low visioned to live a more independent life. The technology can be costly and many potential beneficiaries are low income Australians managing on a blind pension. These people have no means of affording assistive technology. Today, Australian Lions Visual Independence Foundation (ALVIF) has an Executive Committee with a number of Lions Districts across Australia who support and assist the Foundation. Over 700 people across Australia have been helped with a grant program or purchase of the technology. Over 200 Lions Clubs have sponsored or supported a person with a talking bar code reader or talking GPS.
ALVIF works with the various state and territory blindness agencies as well as our technology partners, to help bring this technology to those in need. ALVIF also has generous sponsorship and assistance from organisations
such as the RACV, Navteq, GS1 and Insignia. ALVIF has also gained tax deductibility status. For further enquiries, please contact us by mail, phone or email as listed below.
