I bet you think we are going to say that the answer is: We are all transfer students. Wrong! (Even though that is true). The correct answer is: We are all Penn students! Welcome to Penn – our home, and now yours, too! As transfer students (from Drexel University and Villanova University), we understand how excited and perhaps nervous you must feel about your transition to Penn. Although starting over in a brand new place is never easy, we feel confident that your years at Penn will constitute some of the best of your lives! The Transfer Student Organization (TSO) is a resource for all who transfer to Penn. We were founded in 2011 by a close-knit group of students who saw the need to build the transfer community on campus. Over the past few years TSO has played an increasingly central role in the coordination and staffing of your transfer orientation, as well as making the academic and social transition as easy as possible. Everything we do as an organization is with the following two goals in mind: to bring new transfer students together and to help new transfers integrate into the Penn community! There is no doubt that New Student Orientation is going to be an unforgettable and wonderful experience for you, but remember, the fun continues after NSO as well! After orientation, both TSO and the NSO office will continue to organize events throughout the year to ensure that you continually interact with our diverse transfer community and with the Penn community! You can stay in touch with TSO through one or all of the following ways: by liking our Facebook page ‘Penn Transfer Student Organization’ to hear about the latest events, by joining the ‘UPenn Transfers 2017-2018!’ official Facebook page at www.penntransfers.com to talk to other students transferring in your same year and ask questions of previous transfer students, or by checking out our website at www.penntso.com for a wide variety of informational resources and an introduction to all of our wonderful TSO EBoard members! As this year’s transfer coordinators, we have helped the NSO staff and other student volunteers create a week of events specifically designed for you! These programs, which are social, cultural, and academic in nature, will ensure that you get to know Penn, Philadelphia, and your incoming classmates before embarking on your first semester here. The New Student Orientation website (www.nso.upenn.edu) gives you a detailed picture of all the great experiences and happenings we have in store for you. We hope that through our social Facebook group you will continue meeting all of the other incoming transfers. This group will serve as a vital source of information during orientation and beyond. By joining the group, you will also be able to interact with Transfer PHINS (Peers Helping Incoming New Students) and the NSO staff. The group also contains helpful resources such as contact information for students in each of the four undergraduate schools. Congratulations and again, please don’t hesitate to reach out and talk to us. You can email us at [email protected] or call the NSO office with any questions! We look forward to meeting you! DEAR TRANSFER STUDENTS, We haven’t met you yet, but we already have at least one (extremely exciting) thing in common.
