Bookworm Mobile Outreach Program
Why Books for children?
Learning to read and reading to learn are the ways in which children and young people learn
about themselves, things and places.
Books provide readers with a window to the world.
Books allow children an opportunity to explore the far reaches of their own imagination.
Books help language development; in form, structure and content.
Books support visual imagination and creative thinking.
Why a Mobile Library?
Access to books becomes possible.
The larger the variety, the more the exposure and learning.
Reading begins at home and a mobile library puts books into homes that need it the most.
The local community begins to recognise the value of reading programs.
Children are exposed to the support and skills of mobile library volunteers.
Mobility allows larger geographies to be covered with available resources.
What Bookworm does?
Bookworm is a Goa based organisation that works with children, educators and the community to grow
the bookworm culture. The initiatives include a community library, literacy activities, school programs,
workshops, publishing.
Mission for the Mobile Library Program:
To enable a library experience for all children, irrespective of class, home language and geography.
Expected Outcomes:
Children grow into readers.
Children have legitimate spaces for expression.
A child’s reading and writing improves.
Children’s awareness and knowledge grows.
Children are exposed to mentors and helping professionals.
Volunteers give back to the community.
Volunteers learn about the community.
Volunteers grow in understanding and exposure.
Together we grow communities of readers.
Document and understand outreach activity.
Develop models for replication and sharing.
Grow the community of literacy educators.
Partner with us:
Library volunteers play an important role as partners in Bookworm’s mission of taking books to
children and connecting them to the world of ideas and information.
We assure you rewarding opportunities that might suit you! We're looking for people willing to
donate just a few hours of their time on an ongoing basis. Volunteer opportunities may include:
o Assisting an existing outreach site
o Leading a new site
o Developing material/ideas for the program
o Fund raising for the program
o Networking
