WHAT IS A PREPOSITIONAL PHRASE?

A GROUP of words beginning with a preposition and ending with a noun or pronounA prepositional phrase acts as an adverb or an adjective.It RELATES to some other word in the sentence, like the subject or predicate.Includes a preposition, the object of the preposition, and any modifiers of that objectEXAMPLES:

* to the PG-rated movie * to her* for the silly children * for my mommy* for them

Compound = two or more

Preposition that consists of two or more prepositions

Commonly used compound prepositions:

-in addition to-next to -apart from -in front of -on account of -out of -as of -in place of -because of -in spite of
