Nominating Committee Seeks Candidates

During the next couple of months, the Nominating Committee will be

seeking (3) candidates for Faith’s Congregation Council and (2) LCMC

Convention delegates. The committee’s goal is to have these

candidates selected by the end of November. They will then be

presented for the congregation’s approval at our annual meeting in

January 2016.

The Congregation Council consists of ten members, chosen for three-

year terms. The council is responsible for the general oversight of the

life and activities of our congregation, as well as the congregation’s

financial, property and personnel matters. Council normally meets once

per month, although additional meetings are sometimes needed. Each

member also serves as a liaison to one of the Operational Committees

that also meet once per month.

Serving on the Congregation Council will help you gain the knowledge

and insight as to how our congregation works, and this knowledge will

serve you long after your council term is over. It’s easy to say “let

someone else do it” but if everyone had that attitude, our Faith would

not continue to thrive.

If you would like to serve Faith Lutheran Church as a council member or

delegate, please contact any member of the Nominating Committee.

Members of the committee are David Moltz, (chair) Deloris Atzger, Larry

Serold, G.P. Day, Leanna Menn, and Kim Koenig. Thank you for your

consideration of this matter.

Cristo Rey Friends to Visit Faith

Pastor Alma Morales and members of Cristo Rey Lutheran Church in

Las Milpas will be in Seguin on August 8 - 9. Pastor Alma and Phil

Daniels will lead worship together on Sunday, August 9th. Pastor Alma

and her parishioners will lead the Adult Sunday School class. The

Mission Outreach Committee and the Social Concerns Committee will

have a Pot Luck Lunch in the LEC after Sunday School, and this will

take the place of the Fifth Sunday Potluck for August. Our Las Milpas

guests will present a Power Point Presentation during the luncheon.

Please mark your calendars, plan to attend, and bring a covered dish to

share.

about investing, basic estate planning, purposeful living, safeguarding your

legacy, and discovering the keys to generational wealth and true generosity.

Beginning Sunday, August 16th, the Stewardship Committee will have a

registration table set up in the Narthex. The first 10 families to register will

be able to purchase a membership kit for $100, or you can register online at

daveramsey.com under classes. The cost online will be $109 plus shipping.

Please consider joining us for this informative class. Invite your friends and

relatives. The class is open to the whole community as a project for our 50th

Anniversary celebration Faith on Tour.

Church Council Communication Corner

Highlights from the July Council Meeting: Call Committee Update: After a thorough search, the Intentional Interim

Call Committee was unable to find any qualified individuals to fill the

position. As a result, that committee will discontinue its services. The Call

Committee will immediately begin searching for Senior Pastor. In addition,

the Council will charge the Call Committee with simultaneously beginning

to search for an Associate Pastor. It is our hope and prayer that the Call

Committee will find two individuals with complimentary strengths and

interests to serve at Faith Lutheran Church. We would like to extend a huge

thank you to the Intentional Interim Call Committee for their service. We

also ask that you keep the Call Committee in your thoughts and prayers

during their search.

Committee Highlight for August: The Council would like to begin

highlighting the great works accomplished by Faith Lutheran Church's

standing committees. This month we are highlighting the Evangelism

Committee. They have sponsored several prayer walks in many parts of the

community, begun two prayer groups (one on Monday mornings and one

on Wednesdays at noon), sent 30+ cards to church members during

significant life events, approved a brochure with information about Faith

Lutheran Church to be distributed around the community, given mugs with

church information to visitors on Sunday mornings, and recently approved

the delivery of thank you bud vases to visitors of Faith Lutheran Church.

The council would like to extend our Thanks to the Evangelism Committee

for all of their hard work this year. Please thank them when you see them.

FAITH on Tour 50th Anniversary Celebration Faith’s 50th year officially began on February 27, 2015. The

goal of Faith on Tour is to celebrate by giving back to the

community and to complete 50 service projects by our 50th

Anniversary date, February 27, 2016.

Faith on Tour made good progress in July. The project at Seguin

Youth Services has been completed. David Brucks, Mary

Koehler, Larry and Kristy Serold, and Willie and Brenda Bloch

worked diligently one Saturday morning and painted

SYS’s picket fence in a variety of bright colors. This enhanced

the grounds of the facility and made it

look more inviting to the children.

Vacation Bible School was also a great outreach to our

community and beyond. The offering collected during VBS will

go to Operation Kid-to-Kid International. The children doubled

their goal and raised $800 to send 200 colorful, kid-friendly,

Thai-language New Testaments to children in Thailand. There

were numerous children attending VBS who were not members

of Faith. This wonderful program definitely offered opportunities

to many in our community. The sixth-grade class constructed a

Seguin Little Free Library, a Cat-In-The-Hat tribute to Dr. Seuss

to house books to share with our community. This library will be

stationed near the east entrance to the Preschool wing.

These worthwhile projects bring our total to 20 Faith On Tour

projects completed. This is a good start on our way to

completing 50 projects by the end of February, 2016.

Now…what great idea do you have in mind?

Anyone interested in working in the church nursery should call Katherine

Biediger 372-0399 or the church office. This is a paid position on Sunday

mornings from 8:45 to 11:30 AM beginning September 6th.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!

If someone told me 44 years ago that I would live in the state of Texas and a few years later become a Church Secretary, I would have said that I do not even know where Texas is and what – a Church Secretary?? First of all, I am not leaving Seguin, and I am not leaving Faith Lutheran Church. I will just not be coming through the front doors every day. What a Blessing it has been to be a part of this church staff and this Church Family of believers. Over the years there have been numerous people that I have worked with and it has been a joy. I know that all of you in some way over the years have touched my life, and I hope that is some small way I have touched yours. Thank you so much for letting me be a part of your lives all these years. It has truly been a Blessing to be here at Faith Lutheran Church, and I look forward to the next 40 years!! I am so overwhelmed with your gifts of love and well wishes. Blessings on all of you! Love, Cathy “Crash” Wensinger

Christian Cupboard Item of the Month Food Drive Continues

The Social Concerns Committee continues to sponsor the Item of the Month

Food Drive to benefit the Christian Cupboard. For the month of August, the

Christian Cupboard states that with school beginning soon, their most needed

items are hygiene products. This includes things like shampoo, body wash,

deodorant, and toothpaste.

Please bring your donations through August 31st and place them in the basket

in the Narthex marked Christian Cupboard. Items of the month for the next two

months are as follows: September, canned fruit and October, oatmeal. Faith’s

members have always been wonderful supporters of the Christian Cupboard, and

the Social Concerns Committee thanks you for your continued generosity. You

have helped us make the Item of the Month Food Drive a success!
