Why Study in Florence?

A city that challenges the concepts of past, present, and future, Florence, a european capital of art, history, and culture, is the capital of the italian region of tuscany. its central position makes it a unique portal to discovering italy; it is located an hour from Bologna, an hour and a half from rome, and 2 hours from Milan by train. historically speaking, Florence has changed global and western thought considering its revolutionary impact through the first banking systems, the widening of architectural and artistic perspectives during the renaissance, and modern political science and philosophy. it is an excellent compass for navigating italian culture through its linguistic importance, an ambassador of italian regionality through its capital position in tuscany, a site where many of italy’s important moments unfolded throughout time. Florence today, with its unique characteristics coupled with a primary position in international and italian tourism, economy, and culture, is an intriguing example of how past, present, and future blend together in stimulating expression of the european city. students seeking to study abroad in Florence find themselves immersed in an environment where all areas of human experience and study offer continuous and multi-fold opportunities to learn and be profoundly changed by the life and activity taking place here.

Why Study at Florence University of the Arts

Students live in Florence’s city center just like the locals do!

5students have the unique opportunity of living in an environment where multiple cultures, languages and backgrounds meld into a single, unforgettable experience. housing solutions are located within the historic center of Florence, granting immediate access to all Florence has to offer. Apartments are within walking distance from shops, food markets, caffes, museums, and bus stops. Florence offers public transportation but be prepared to walk as well – the best way to explore the town is on foot to discover the innumerable gems in its streets! All apartments are fully furnished and functional. please keep in mind that most are located within historical buildings; they may or may not include an elevator, each has particular characteristics.

Housing Options: Shared apartments: the most popular choice. these apartments are fully furnished and fully functional. the standard layout of the apartments consist of multiple bedrooms, multiple bathrooms (variable), kitchen, and common areas. As each apartment is unique, they will all have qualities about them that differ from place to place. Studio Apartments: these apartments are the ideal solution for those students who wish to have absolutely private living arrangements. these must be requested and depend on availability. Homestay: this option appeals strongly to those students who wish to deepen their initial foray into the italian culture. it requires flexibility and respect for the host family’s lifestyle on the part of the student, as there might be cultural differences to adjust to initially. Hosts don’t always live in the center of town, so for this option, while the student might not be within 20 minutes walking distance, the homes are always located near a public transportation option, more often than not on a primary bus line. Bed and breakfast or half board options available.

For Special and Highlight Programs:For special and highlight programs that involve travel learning outside of Florence, students will be housed in B&Bs and hotels where breakfast and some meals are included. For questions regarding housing, please contact [email protected]
