Membership ~ Kathy Myers Happy spring! Although we may still have some lingering April showers, it’s beginning to look like spring is in the air, and with it comes some important dates to circle on your calendar. First, at the Regular Meeting on April 10, we will be collecting your membership renewal form and dues. The renewal process runs through May 15. After that deadline, a $10 late fee will be assessed. The renewal form was sent to all members in an Etree message in March, and copies are also available in a bright pink folder in the Thrift Shop and in the Annex. The form and your check for $70 can be turned in at the meeting or mailed to: ALGP, P.O. Box 4693, Auburn CA 95604-4693. If you decide not to renew your membership, please submit your resignation request in writing via letter to the P.O. Box address above or by email: [email protected]. Next, comes your friendly reminder to look at your calendar and turn in your service hours ASAP. The computer buddies will be on hand to assist at the meetings, and below you will find a reminder of how to do it on your own. All hours for the year are due by May 15. Remember that we estimate the hours for the entire month of May so that we can write our end-of-the-year reports by May 31. For those who were not at the March meeting, Anne Thompson delivered a pledge and a challenge. She pledged to have all her hours up to date by the end of March, and she challenged all members to do the same. She will begin calling those who have not turned in hours, and although we love Anne, we don’t want that phone call. Do-It-Yourself Service Hours Instructions:

• Log in to our website: www.assistanceleague.org/greater-placer.

• Go to Member Resources, and click on Online Tools in the drop-down menu.

• When the Online Tools screen appears, click the heading Enter Service Hours, and a form will pop up on your screen.

• Complete the form by entering your name and hours for each of the four categories. Then click Submit. When the thank you message appears, you have successfully submitted your hours. If you are having problems logging in, contact Shirley Lessiak with your specific problem: [email protected].

Lastly, our chapter will soon be celebrating a milestone. In 1987, Assistance Guild of Auburn Foothills was formed. We are fortunate to have six Charter Members who have been with us from the beginning: Lola Altus, Bertie Cain, Betty Fuller, Ruth Johanson, Julie Stringham, and Judy Ussher. We will begin to celebrate our 30-year anniversary at the Regular Meeting in May and hope you will be able to join us as we celebrate the past and look forward to the future. Our June Luncheon is at Lake of the Pines on June 12, 2017.

Congratulations to Annette Eastman, our AL Bear Award winner for March!

Behind the Scenes Working with Lyn Board, the Grant Committee Chairman, Janet Bradford and Paulette Benedict have been busy working on Grant Submissions the past two years. These ladies have been energetic and dedicated. Janet and Paulette are willing to dive in and gather the information needed for each unique grant submission. Thank you.

Our Thrift Shop schedulers, Lyne Mullin and Linda Oddo have done a fantastic job this past year making sure the Thrift Shop is staffed. It is a time consuming job. They check the calendar regularly to make sure it is up to date along with the calendar on our web site. They work extra shifts when there are not enough members to staff the front of the shop. Thank you.

The Training Coordinators for the Thrift Shop, Jan Gorts and Donna Kirkpatrick have their hands full whenever we have a group of new members. There is a special calendar that they track new member training for the front and back of the Thrift Shop. They also make sure that there is a Thrift Shop trainer available for each new member. New members are required to train three (3) shifts in the front and three (3) shifts in the back room of the shop. That’s a big job for Jan and Donna considering the number of new members coming in twice a year. Thank you.

Philanthropic Programs ~ Sydney Whaley One of the definitions of philanthropy is “an idea, event, or action that is done to better humanity and usually involves some sacrifice as opposed to being done for a profit motive.” This is the drive behind National Assistance League®. Assistance League of Greater Placer has 13 opportunities for you as members to satisfy your need to give back. On Monday, April 10 at our Regular Meeting, each of our 14 programs/committees will have signup sheets available. These signups are for our 2017-18 fiscal year which begins in June. If you would like to stay on the program you’ve been on, please sign that sheet. If you think you’d like to try something new, or if you’re new to Assistance League of Greater Placer, please sign the sheet of your choice. How about trying your hand at chairing or being a vice-chair on a program or committee? Make a note by your name. It’s not difficult, and it’s tremendously rewarding. There will be a Job Description and a current member or Chair at each signing station to answer any questions you might have. Remember, Philanthropic programs are what Assistance League is all about. Please take a few minutes before and after our meeting on April 10 to sign up to give back to our Placer County community.
