News FLAsia show 2014 achieved great success! The three-day Franchising & Licensing Asia (FLAsia) 2014 was a
great success! This year’s event was the largest showing to date,
attracting a record 300+ brands from 22 countries and regions,
marking a 20% in floor space increase from last year. FLAsia 2014
has been the most exciting franchising and licensing exhibition thus
far, showcasing numerous international business concepts.
FLA awards 2014 result came out! The result of FLA awards 2014 was announced during the gala
dinner in the evening of Oct 16th. 15 companies, brands and
individuals were conferred with 6 titles of awards under the witness
of FLA executive committee, FLA members and other attendees.

FLAsia 2014 is also past and the dust is settling down. Significantly bigger, the show also
was a step up in term of branding experience delivered by the exhibitors such as Casa
Italia, Owndays, Altiplly (A.S Louken), Astreem to name a few. It really starts feeling like a
world-class show. Many thanks again to all exhibitors. The coming weeks and months will
decide on the quality of the harvest in terms of brand recognition, new franchisee sign-ups
etc. And before you know, it will be time to prepare for FLAsia Show 2015. By October
2015, your Association will have carried out the plans it is mapping. Its new 5 years
partnership with BizLink for the organization of FLAsia show is only one of the many
programs it is engaging to make your life as a franchisor/franchisee/licensor/licensee

Franchisor of the Year – Dapur Penyet
The Dapur Penyet franchise was launched in 2008 with its first store at
Jurong Point and quickly expanded to new locations in Orchard Road,
Clementi Mall, Tiong Bahru Mall, Lot One Mall and City Square. In 2010
Dapur Penyet expanded to Malaysia followed by Indonesia in 2012. This
year it opened its first store in Brunei Darussalam. The franchise has
plans to open new stores in Singapore, Australia, Myanmar and China.

SIGNARAMA
The Signarama brand was founded in 1986 when father and son team Ray
and Roy Titus realised the need for a more efficient way to purchase signage.
By taking signage from the industrial facilities and warehouses to a clean,

Star Achiever Award - ExpressPrint
The Star Achiever Award is awarded to a franchise that has achieved more than 300
franchise stores. The winner, ExpressPrint, is a commercial printing company offering
a diversified range of printing services such as offset printing, digital printing, large
format printing and sublimation printing that will meet today’s printing needs.
Franchisee of the Year – Bobby Chiam
Mr Chiam's franchise journey began with 7-Eleven when Shell and 7-Eleven formed
an alliance in 2007. At that time, Mr Chiam was operating three 7-Eleven outlets all
in Shell petrol kiosks. Two years later Mr Chiam began investing in standalone 7-
Eleven stores. He now has 10 7-Eleven outlets across Singapore with a total of 60

Fresh FLA 2014 Survey Report is on sale!
In order to offer FLA members, the government
sector and investors a more comprehensive
understanding on the franchise industry in
Singapore, FLA started a survey and build a
database on the market.
Shopping malls, MRT/LRT stations and Bus
interchanges, with the most absorption capacity
to gather people, are considered as the major
locations for retail stores. Therefore, the stores
siting there are worth studying and they can
reflect the real picture of the entire retail
industry.

all the stores in 100 shopping malls, all the
existing MRT/LRT stations and Bus
interchanges in Singapore. The sample

Fundamentals of Franchise Management (FFM) - 28th Intake
INTRODUCTION
Fundamentals of Franchise Management (FFM) is the first foundation course on franchising by Franchising and
Licensing Association (FLA) Singapore. FFM will introduce participants to multidisciplinary areas involved in the
franchising practice. Using lectures, case studies and assignments, FFM will provide participants the necessary
theories, background information and practical learning experiences for their executive responsibilities. FT
Consulting, together with Franchising and Licensing Association (FLA Singapore), will conduct the course.
Topics covered the key areas of:

• Franchise Manuals and Marketing
• Legal and Commercial Framework of Franchising
• Financial Considerations in Franchising

Over 300 Brands at FLAsia 2014
SINGAPORE - Entrepreneurs and prospective franchisees met face to face with representatives of international brand concepts for 3 days
during the 9th annual Franchising & Licensing Asia (FLAsia), presented by the Franchising & Licensing Association (FLA) Singapore and
organised by BizLink Exhibition Services Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of Singapore Press Holdings. FLAsia took place from Oct 16 to 18 at Marina
Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Singapore.
This year's event was the largest showing to date, attracting a record 300+ brands from 22 countries and regions, marking a 20 per cent
increase from last year.
At the opening ceremony of FLAsia 2014, Minister of State for Trade and Industry, Mr Teo Ser Luck said that franchising and licensing
continue to play important roles in Singapore's retail trade as well as F&B industries. In 2013, the nominal value added (VA) of both sectors
were 5.1 billion and 3.3 billion Singapore dollars respectively, with the franchising industry alone accounting for approximately 1 billion
Singapore dollars.
This years' showing has seen increased interest from international brands seeking to use Singapore as a launch pad, with South Korea
and Malaysia having their largest pavilions in FLAsia's history.
On the question of "Why choose to bring your local brand concepts to Singapore?", Ms Yuseon Eom, Manager of the Food Service
Promotion Team of the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) and organiser of the Korea Pavilion, together with the Korean
Franchise Association (KFA), said that Korean franchisees are extremely keen to expand overseas and bring their brands to Asia. Their
plans are to use Singapore as the hub of expansion.
A good example is Beesket from South Korea, one of the participants at the Korea Pavilion at FLAsia. Beesket offers a unique business
concept which allows customers to select up to 3 different combinations of fruit and vegetable ingredients for their fresh beverage, made of
100 per cent natural juice with no sugar and additives.
Beesket recently secured a Singapore master franchise, and exhibited at FLAsia 2014 so as to help obtain more sub franchisees for
Singapore and the region. Mr Kevin Cho, CEO of Beesket Global Inc commented that through FLAsia, they have garnered much positive
interest for regional franchises, including - Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
Organiser of the largest Malaysia Pavilion at FLAsia, Mr Mohd Nadmin Bin Ramlan, Senior Assistant Director of the Ministry of Domestic
Trade, Co-Operatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) said that the Singapore market was chosen out of the other ASEAN countries due to
the high purchasing power of its citizens. All the Malaysian franchise concepts that were showcased currently have no presence in
Singapore, thus KPDNKK chose these brands for promotion. A number of enquiries have been received from international visitors and Mr
Mohd Nadmin is pleased with the results.
FLAsia 2014 has been the most exciting franchising and licensing exhibition thus far, showcasing numerous international business
concepts. Executive Director of BizLink Exhibition Services, Mr Chua Wee Phong, is pleased that the many years of hard work has paid off
and that FLAsia has become the largest edition, and the largest event in the region. Mr Chua said, "It is our belief to make sure we bring in
quality franchisees for the exhibitors, and we will do so continually."
