Fact #1:

� John Hancock was the first person to sign the Declaration of Independence. For that reason, he had more space than anyone else, which is why he decided to write so big!

Fact #2:

� Of the first five presidents of the United States, three died on July 4th: Thomas Jefferson and John Adams both died on the same day in 1826, and James Monroe died in 1831.

(Calvin Coolidge, our 30th president, was born on July 4th, 1872. Talk about patriotic!)

Fact #3� The back of the Declaration of Independence reads,

“Original Declaration of Independence dated 4th July 1776”. The words are written backwards and upside-down!

Fact #4� There is an old folk tale that four U.S. immigrants got

into an argument over who was the most patriotic. They decided to solve the issue with a hotdog eating contest. Thus an annual tradition was born!
