Comments on the Day!
-Gladys Davis—“The service was awesome. I could just see Jerry sitting up there in the choir. He would have been so happy to see everything.”
-Bill Hatcher—“It was great! I loved seeing a whole row of kids sitting in the service.”
-Bonnie Essary—“I love the chairs! They were so comfortable and I was able to sit through the whole service without pain. I miss everyone.”
-Ellen Terhune—“Loved the emphasis on prayer and truth.”
-Jeri Stringer—”Really good, very organized.”
-Charlotte Peterson—“Bro. Jack’s message represented the mission of our church on reaching the community.”
-Leanne Davis—“It was very worshipful!”
The opening and dedication of our
renovated sanctuary is not the end of our
Acts 1:8 Challenge. That challenge is for
us to be “His witnesses in Jerusalem,
Judea, Samaria and to the end of the earth.” (Acts
1:8). While the completion of the renovation is a
great step in that direction, remember what you
heard and did on Dedication Sunday!
We dedicated not only a place, but ourselves
individually and as a congregation: We shall be a
people of prayer. We shall be a people of Truth.
We shall be a holy people. “Do you not know that
you are a temple of God.” (1 Cor. 3:16 NASB). It
is in being His people that we become His
witnesses to a lost and dying world.
Our Acts 1:8 Challenge is far from complete, both
financially and in our mission to make disciples. In
the brief video which was shown as part of the
service, Pastor reminded us of the Great
Commission mission to “Make Disciples.” We now
have a renovated sanctuary in which to worship
and a new welcome center in which to fellowship. I
pray that we are a renovated people ready to
worship “in spirit and in truth,” and a people with
new hearts, ready to be “His witnesses, in
Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the
earth.” (Acts 1:8)
Dr. Gary Redding
“Ever Feel Like A Bird?”
Three times in the Book of Psalms, David
compares himself to a bird; (Ps. 11:1;
55:6; and 124:7).
In (Ps. 11:1), he declares, “Escape to a
mountain like a bird”; in (55:6), “If I only
had wings like a dove, I would fly away and
find rest;” and (124:7); “We have escaped
like a bird from the hunter’s net…”
Have you ever been so surrounded by
troubles that you wish you could fly away
like a bird? Then you are in good company
with the psalmist.
Perhaps there is a hint here of our need
at times to “get away from it all.” We all
need breaks and vacations from time to
time. Jesus counseled the disciples “Come
apart and rest a while,” (Mk. 6:31.)
However, the main lesson in these
“escape like a bird” passages is to find
our rest and consolation in the presence of
our God, (Ps. 11:1a) “I have taken refuge in
the Lord;” (55:1) “God, listen to my prayer,
and do not ignore my plea for
help.” (124:8), “Our help is in the name of
Yahweh, the maker of heaven and earth.”
Yes, may we be ever mindful of our
human frailties and limitations. We all
need take time to rest, recreate, and
regroup.
But, more importantly, we need to
experience a daily rest and refreshing
that comes from our walking closely with
our Lord.
Be Encouraged,
Bro. Jack
