Cadet Theme 2010-2011

“Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves.

A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” Ecclesiastes 4:12

Page 6: First Christian Reformed Church bulletin - WEB.pdf05/01/11 First Christian Reformed Church 20 Bly Street Waupun, WI 53963 920-324-2898 firstcrcwaupunwi@juno.com CCLI License 1865451

Cadet Sunday Litany 2010–2011

Leader: God's Word says: "Though one may be overpowered, two can defend

themselves,"

Congregation: "A cord of three strands is not quickly broken."

Leader: In the beginning God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a

helper suitable for him."

Congregation: So God gave us mates and families in which to grow and thrive, and

friends to encourage us. Together we give God praise.

Leader: Truly God is good. He has placed us in families and given us a place in church

and in society.

Congregation: Yet there are times when we feel all alone, deserted by friends and

forsaken by God. Sometimes we call out like Elijah, the prophet, "I am the only one left."

Leader: People of God beware! Despair and loneliness are tools of the devil to destroy

our faith. Pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!

Congregation: Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If

one falls down, his friend can help him up.

Leader: In communion with each other, we feel stronger, more empowered and

encouraged. We can go forward more eagerly in our work and in our worship.

Congregation: We strengthen and support each other when we share our witness as well.

"A matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses." We can

validate each other's words.

Leader: Yet there is something missing. Rather, someone who gives meaning and

purpose to life and gives us a hope and a future. That Someone is God Himself.

Congregation: "There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother." God's Word says that

Abraham was called a friend of God. We want to be God's friends too.

Leader: Brothers and sisters, we need to become one in Christ and by this union, gain His

strength and power.

Congregation: We claim by faith the promise, "A cord of three strands is not quickly

broken."

Leader: So build your life on the Lord Jesus Christ and serve Him and His people with all

your heart.

Congregation: It is for this service that we have been given gifts and have been knotted

together in Christ so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the

faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole

measure of the fullness of Christ.

The goal of the Calvinist Cadet Corps includes these words: “The primary emphasis in cadeting is the relationship that develops between the counselor and each boy.” Another emphasis is on the relationship between the counselor and the Lord. In a sense, when a man walks closely with his God and walks closely with a boy, that boy will also be closer to God. The Cadet Corps is trying to capture that thought this year in the theme, “Knotted Together in Christ.” Ecclesiastes 4:12 tells us “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” That cord of three strands is a man, a boy, and Jesus Christ. Please pray for the Cadets in your church and around the world, and for the counselors who work with them. Pray that all they say and do will bring them closer to Christ, and will bring Him glory.

Your Cadets are in one of the 600 Cadet clubs in Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zeeland, Kenya, Uganda, and other countries. As an independent ministry, the Cadet Corps doesn’t receive any ministry shares from denominations, but relies on gifts and offering. We are grateful for the faithful support of our member churches.

Worship Notes

Today is Preparatory for the celebration of the Lord’s Supper next Sunday morning.

This morning we celebrate Christian Education Sunday. We thank the Lord for Christian schools and colleges that, in conjunction with the Christian home and Christian church, prepare students spiritually, socially, emotionally, academically and physically, to serve God according to His Word and to glorify God by honoring Him in all aspects of life.

We thank the New Generation Singers from Central Wisconsin Christian Schools for sharing your gift of song with us and leading us in worship of our Lord and Savior.

This morning’s offering is for the Classical Ministry Shares which supports regional ministries that are designated by Classis Wisconsin. This fund currently supports a Classis Fund, a Student Fund, Classis Home Missions, Dordt College, and Trinity Christian College.

This evening we celebrate Cadet Sunday. We thank the Lord for dedicated men who, through their ministry as Cadet leaders, share Christ’s love with 4

th-8

th grade boys; bringing them into a living relationship with their

Lord and Savior and helping them grow spiritually in all areas of life (devotional, mental, physical, and social).

We thank the Waupun Area Cadets for participating in this evening’s service, and we welcome Alto CRC and Bethel CRC members as you join us in worship. This evening’s offering is for Cadets.

Cadet members are reminded to be at church at 6:30 PM sharp.

Verse of the Week: Matthew 7:24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”

April 21

Greetings:

I am here again to give you some updates of what’s happening here in the Prison Ministry.

We are blessed by men who attend our Bible study, and how they learn more and more about God’s Word. We can see the evidence in the way they treat other inmates. Some of them were very sad about the cancer of Brother Bob, and they always give a special prayer for him. It’s always the desire of Brother Bob to go to the Prison and teach with the inmates, but it’s very hard for him now to travel because sometimes he has a trigger of pain and sometimes he feels very weak.

But the Lord is very gracious to us, for He strengthens us so that we could go on serving Him even in the midst of these, Even though sometimes I want to stay home to take care of Bob and be with him, but I know he will feel better if I go and teach the Word to the inmates. And the inmates value it so much that they come to the realization how much the Lord cares and loved them through the life of Brother Bob and our ministry.

Thank you for all the help you extend in the ministry so that we can continue to bring the message to the inmates. And especially for remembering Brother Bob in your prayer and the work that we are doing here.

Your sister in Christ,

Neen

April 22

Dear friends,

Here is an update:

Ryan was chosen to receive a children of missionaries scholarship, renewable for 4 years! It was enough that we felt he could enroll at Wheaton College. We continue to trust the Lord for the remaining need. One way this could be met is through a children of Wycliffe members scholarship – please pray that his application for that would be looked on favorably as well.

We have no word on how the Faith Comes by Hearing recording work on the Kuman New Testament in Papua New Guinea is going, and don’t expect to hear for a while yet. Please continue to pray for the right readers to be found and for equipment to work well.

Finally, I ask you to pray for wisdom for Dunc as he is in the exciting position of helping to move 4 new language projects from the “let’s consider it” stage to the “this is a go / approval” stage. After final approval, the projects get launched and the nitty gritty work of getting God’s Word translated into the languages is started.

Happy Easter – He is Risen!

Mary Pfantz
