Find the Perfect Gift Toolkit Implementation Guide This Find the Perfect Gift toolkit has been created to assist your parish and school in empowering practicing Catholics to be evangelizers during the seasons of Advent and Christmas which hold special evangelizing potential. Included in this toolkit are the following in English and Spanish:

• Six sample Prayers of the Faithful • Twelve sample Facebook posts (two per week) • Six sample Bulletin and Pulpit Announcements • A full-page bulletin insert and backpack stuffer on how to get involved with Find the Perfect

Gift

All resources are available online before November 28 at the staff-only site adw.org/advent and after November 28 at FindthePerfectGift.org. You are invited to make use of these resources in any way you deem helpful; feel free to utilize them as written, modify them to better suit your parish’s needs, or draw upon them to inspire your own unique creations. Additionally, phrases, statements, paragraphs, and/or spiritual themes found in the following resources may be appropriated for use in your homilies, in your parish’s Advent 2014 outreach programs, in confession and spiritual direction, etc. What are the two goals of Find the Perfect Gift/Regalo Perfecto? 1. Reinsert into secular society’s celebration of Christmas an invitation to experience Jesus Christ, our Perfect Gift, as the heart of the Advent and Christmas seasons, to encounter those seeking a deeper purpose in life, to stir within all people a sense of the sacred, and to invite people to celebrate the season with the Catholic Church. 2. To assist active Catholics in being evangelizers in their everyday lives by posting a sign in the yard that celebrates Advent and Christmas; by sharing the website and Facebook posts with family, friends, co-workers for whom Christmas is highly stressful or seemingly without meaning; and by personally inviting people to come to one of the many spiritual celebrations of Advent and Christmas across the archdiocese.

Description of the NEW Yard Sign Design -The yard sign continues the theme of “seeking” from the original design, this year choosing to show three shepherds following the star, representing the primary audience for the initiative and relates to all people of faith seeking to encounter God in their lives. -The star that the Shepherds seek is placed over a hillside of seven churches (including parishes in Montgomery County, Southern Maryland, and the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle) as well as two images of Washington, D.C. We find Jesus, the Perfect Gift, especially present in our faith communities but also in “the city”, amid the busyness of our lives. -A “word-cloud” concept is introduced alongside the prominent website URL. Including words that speak to the heart of the human experience of the season of Advent and Christmas evokes a memory of faith and meaning in the Christmas season. Descripción del NUEVO diseño de cartel para patios o jardines - El cartel para patios o jardines continúa el tema de "búsqueda" del diseño original, pero este año muestra tres pastores siguiendo la estrella, lo cual representa al público principal de la iniciativa y se relaciona con todas las personas de fe que buscan encontrar a Dios en sus vidas. -La estrella que buscan los pastores está ubicada por encima de una ladera de siete iglesias (incluidas parroquias del condado de Montgomery, del sur de Maryland y la Catedral de San Mateo el Apóstol) y por encima de dos imágenes de Washington, D.C. If you’re interested in serving, contact the parish office at.... December 7, 2013 – Second Week of Advent 1. Tomorrow is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, one of the great Marian feasts. Our Lady is, without a doubt, a living prayer, a pure reflection of Our Lord’s life, light, and love. Let the Blessed Virgin Mary teach you how to pray; consider praying the Rosary daily (especially the Joyful Mysteries) in preparation for Christmas. 2. It’s easy to get distracted during the days and weeks leading up to Christmas. Here’s a suggestion: Turn off the radio and the TV. Stop thinking about all the gifts you still have to buy. Take time to pray and reflect on “the reason for the season.” Mark it down – spend at least 10-15 minutes every day in verbal prayer, meditation (prayer using your imagination), contemplation (prayer of the heart), and/or spiritual reading. Center and ground yourself in the Lord, and experience the gift of his peace. December 14, 2014 – Third Sunday of Advent 1. Why the glum face? Are you stressed? If so, join the club! Indeed, when you’ve tried everything you know to make your problems disappear and nothing works, what do you do? Have you tried simply cultivating joy? Think about it: In Jesus, God is intimately familiar with the human condition; he’s experienced every aspect of our lives--even death itself, and he’s with us now. This is what we believe as Christians, and we renew this faith every Christmas. So, today, entrust yourself to the Lord; let his infinite joy fill your soul! 2. You remember the commercial about the person who does a “random act of kindness,” thereby inspiring others (who witness the good deed) to do the same? Well, joy, too, is contagious! And, when you spread it around, sooner or later, it always comes back to you! Jesus came to share his Father’s joy with the whole world. And he founded the Church – he called us to be his disciples – to spread God’s joy around. Joy is one of the “fruits of the Spirit” (see Galatians 5:22-23); why not yield to it?

Do you know somebody – whether a family member, a friend, a coworker or a neighbor – who doesn’t have a church home and might be by him- or herself this Christmas? Why not invite them to Mass and Christmas dinner? This year, be a credible sign of Jesus’ loving presence to someone seeking the Good News in his or her life. December 28th -First Sunday of Christmas 1. Feeling worn out by a busy Christmas season? Sometimes the days after Christmas provide opportunities for the calm we all need to truly reconnect with Jesus Christ, our Perfect Gift, through quiet prayer and reflection. Take time this week to find a few minutes each day to reflect on God’s blessings in your life. 2. The week after Christmas can often feel anti-climactic as things begin to return to normal; families travel home, leftovers get eaten, and houses get tidied. Did you know that even though stores are clearing out the Christmas decorations, in our Catholic tradition the party continues? Catholics continue to celebrate the Christmas season through Epiphany on January 4th. Don’t stop celebrating but continue to share joy and celebrate the birth of our Savior! January 4th –Second Sunday of Christmas 1. Though Christmas music is no longer on the radio and Christmas trees are piling up on curbs across America the Christmas season continues! The joy of Jesus, the Perfect Gift, at Christmas cannot only be celebrated for one day! Let the Christmas season be a reminder of the joy of Jesus Christ present in our lives. This week, look for those moments to encounter that Perfect Gift daily. 2. For many charities and service organizations the rush of Thanksgiving and Christmas volunteers and donations is over but the call to care for those in need doesn’t stop. Serving those in need is an inspiring way to encounter Jesus Christ, the Perfect Gift, through friendship with those in need. This week, consider how you can make regular service and donation a part of your life.

Este año, anímate a ser un signo creíble de la presencia amorosa de Jesús para alguna persona que esté buscando la Buena Nueva en su vida. 28 de diciembre - Primer Domingo de Navidad 1. ¿Te sientes abatido por el ajetreo de la Navidad? Algunas veces, los días posteriores a la Navidad nos brindan la oportunidad de volver a la calma que todos necesitamos para conectarnos verdaderamente con Jesucristo, nuestro Regalo Perfecto, en tranquila oración y reflexión. Esta semana hazte un tiempo y trata de encontrar algunos minutos por día para reflexionar sobre las bendiciones de Dios en tu vida. 2. Through prayer, videos, social media, daily reflections and yard signs, the Archdiocese of Washington is inviting all people to Find the Perfect Gift in a relationship with Jesus. La mayor parte de la gente da por terminada la Navidad, sin embargo, nosotros, como católicos, ¡continuamos celebrando la feliz noticia del nacimiento de nuestro Salvador! Mantengan el árbol en pie, con las luces encendidas y compartan la alegría con familiares y amigos. Continúen celebrando el Regalo Perfecto del amor de Dios durante todo el tiempo de Navidad (hasta el 6 de enero).
