Introduction
1.1. Introduction
With the opening up of the economy of Bangladesh, a dramatic change has been
observed both in manufacturing and in service sectors. This has brought higher
employment opportunities, increases in income level, and changes in consumption
pattern and consequently there emerges a competitive environment in the country.
Specifically, the expansion of Banking and Insurance business, along with customized
services, has created a severe implied competition in this sector. The scenario has
created an urge to the bank policy makers to identify the underlying reasons and
brought them into consideration the job satisfaction issue. It will investigate that
employee of Sonali Bank Limited, National Bank Limited, Agrone Bank Limited
Standard Bank Limited,…..Insurance Company play the key role in manipulating
their services through implementing policy.
1.2. Rationale of the Study
Today’s business world is dynamic and competitive therefore organizations looking
for talent, extrovert graduates who belong to high degree of adaptability quality.
Today’s business graduates will be the core part of business organization. So business
graduates need to have both theoretical & practical knowledge to manage the business
activity properly. In order to be familiar with organizational culture and to gain some
practical knowledge about an organization our Department provides Eight to twelve
week internship program as a part of the BBA program. After completion of the
program period a student must submit the report on the assigned topic to the
Supervisor and the department. This program carries three (3) credit hours out of 126
credit hours of the BBA program.
1.3. Rationale of selecting SJIBL
I was assigned in Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited through my Internship supervisor I
was selecting Bangladesh Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited to perform my internship
program as my honorable supervisor inspired me. I thought SJIBL being the prime
development financing institution continued its effort to make an effective
contribution towards expansion of industrialization process of Bangladesh. It seems to
me that in SJIBL there is a sufficient opportunity to gain practical knowledge about

the activities of a bank. The working environment is good and the employees are very
much cooperative to provide practical knowledge about different functions of the
bank. I selected a topic named "Employee Job Satisfaction of Shahjalal Islami Bank
Ltd." On the basis of this topic I have prepare my Internship Report.
1.4. Objective of the Report
The public sector as well as the private sector bank has undergone a sea-change over
the years. The change is more evident in the case of public sector Bank that is forced
to match steps with private sector Bank to cope up with the emerging competition.
This has meant a total attitudinal change for the employees. This has not been simple
and has put new pressures and realities in front of the bank employees iced with a
huge pile of inconsistencies. Bank Officers have perhaps felt the maximum heat. On
one side they are expected to monitor, administer and manage the clerical staff and on
the other hand to be the spokesperson of the management. This paradox in the
changed circumstances plus the challenge to counter their own problems has put them
in an unenviable position. This research study was undertaken with the following
three objectives:
(a) To ascertain the degree of overall job satisfaction prevailing among the bank
officers.
(b) To elicit officer's views on the different factors of job satisfaction being identified
as motivation/hygiene factors.
(c) To study the impact of different variables such as the occupational level (clerks,
cashiers or officers), age, education, organizational climate, economic background
and gender, on the various factors affecting the overall job satisfaction.
Broad Objective:
The attitudes regarding job satisfaction are broadly related to the areas of intrinsic
nature of work, wage and security, supervision, and company policies and practices.
The broad objective of the study is descriptive analysis that employee satisfaction of

The Specific objective of the study is findings the results from the balancing and
summation of many specific likes and dislikes of employees experienced in
connection with their jobs. The present study deals with the two issues to analyze the
job satisfaction of bank employees of the SJIBL in. The issues are:
(i) The relative importance of job satisfaction factors.
(ii) The impact of bank type, work experience, age and sex differences on the
attitudes toward job satisfaction.
1.5. Scope of the Report
Since I have worked in the Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited, Khulna Branch, I get the
opportunity to gain knowledge of different part of banking system. The supervisor
divided into the whole banking in three parts. As a result I got the opportunity to work
in all three divisions (investment division, general banking division, foreign exchange
division). And from these three different departments or divisions, I hope that I will
be capable of doing these types of jobs in the future.
1.6. Methodology
Every research work should be conducted through a specific and predetermined
methodology to explore an effective research outcome. For this reason this study also
conducted with a methodology and the element’s of the methodology followed was as
following,

1.7. Data Analysis
Every study conducts on the basis of relevant data. In this regard our teacher prepared
a structured questionnaire considering various factors that help us to identify the
actual satisfaction level of job. After collecting the data, it has been arranged and
analyzed. This questionnaire survey has been conducted upon 15 employees.
Respondent were asking to tick their opinion. After getting their opinion, data have
been categorized into 5 point scale where
5 = strongly agree,
4 = agree,
3 = neutral,
2 = disagree,
1 = strongly disagree.
As this is a descriptive research, analysis has mainly been made using suitable
statistical tools like mean for “Employee job satisfaction of Shahjalal Islami Bank

1.8. Limitation:
On the way of my study in Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited, I faced the following
problems, which may be termed as the limitations of the study. The major limitations
of this study are given as follows:
There were some restrictions to have access to the information confidential by
concern authority.
Sufficient records, publications regarding customer service were not available
as per requirement.
Three-month is not sufficient time to gain practical knowledge and prepare a
report.
The employees of the bank are so much busy so they cannot provide me to
give information.
I have no proper experience to do this kind of report. So, inexperience creates
obstacle to follow the systematic and logical research methodology.

2.9. Islamic Mode of Investment
Bai Mechanism:
Bai means purchase and sale of goods in cash or on credit or in advance at an agreed
upon profit, which may or may not be disclosed to the client. Majority of investments
of Islamic Bank are extended through this mechanism. A good number of investment
products have been designed to facilitate mainly working capital financing which
goes as follows:
Bai-Murabaha
Murabaha LC (Sight/Deferred)
Through this mode of indirect facility, the bank facilitates import of goods of the
client at fixed rate of service charge (LC commission) on invoice value. LC may be
opened at 100% cash or at a different ratio.
Murabaha Post Import TR
This is post import finance under the principle of “Bai”, extended to retire Shipping
Documents under LC opened. We buy the imported goods and sell the same to the
importer at a cost plus an agreed upon profit repayable today or on some date in the
future in lumpsum or by installments. Usually payment is made by lumpsum from the
sale proceeds of the consignment. Possession of goods remains with the client.
Collateral security is usually obtained to secure the finance.
Bai-Muajjal
Bai-Muajjal Commercial TR

It is an agreement between bank and client whereby bank delivers goods to the client
upon deferred payment, i.e. the client shall pay the price at some future date at a time,
by lumpsum or by installment. Under this mode of investment, bank is not supposed
to disclose cost price and profit separately. Goods are delivered on trust and Trust
Receipt is obtained for legal implication.
Bai-Salam

generation, poverty alleviation and overall economic growth of the country. It has
been observed that fund is the major constraint of this sector. Therefore, we need to
inject more funds into this sector in a very planned manner to boost-up this sector for
the sake of overall economic development of the country. Our country is labors
abundant and SMEs are typically labors intensive. So, the sector deserves more
investment facility for smooth functioning of the existing enterprises and expansion of

Job Satisfaction: Analysis & Interpretation
3.1 Job Satisfaction
In this study 'Job' means the total relationship between the individual employee and
his employer (organization) and with work for which he gets compensated. The term
'Satisfaction' refers to the simple feeling/state accompanying the attainment by an
impulse of his/her objectives. The term 'Job Satisfaction’ therefore refers to the
favorableness with which employees view their work and the term 'Job
Dissatisfaction' to the unfavorable ness with which they take their work.
Various theories like Maslow's Need Hierarchy Theory, Herzberg's Motivation-
Hygiene Theory, and Vroom's Expectancy Model have been extended to describe the
factors responsible for the Job Satisfaction of the employees in the organization.
Broadly we can say that an employee’s 'Job Satisfaction' is related to a number of
variables such as age, occupational level, size of the organization, organizational
climate, educational qualifications, educational and economic background, size of the
family, gender of the employee, etc.

From the total observation and analysis during my internship period the following
matters had been founded. The main problems of Shahjalal Islami Bank Ltd. Khulna
Branch are:
Decision making process is very lengthy and sometimes it creates problems,
which is unexpected to the customers. Most of the cases Head Office control
the decision making and it is centralized.
The total number of employees is very short. This is hampering the daily
operation of the Bank.
Lack of proper explanation of records and document records keeping system
Staffing-Level of Branch are not available
Lack of accessibility of Bank
Shortage of ATM booth
Lack of organize, manage, supervise, control and follow up all functional
areas of the bank.
4.2 Recommendations
“Employee Job Satisfaction of Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited (SJIBL): A Study on Khulna Branch.”
Page

No organization can work 100% accurately. They must face some problems.
Similarly, The Shahjalal Islami Bank as a commercial institution faces some problems
to give job satisfaction. To overcome this problem, the bank can employ professional
analysis by using satisfaction analytical tools. Some suggestion can be recommended
to overcome the problem.
Decision making power should be decentralized effectively so that business
can promptly be enhanced.
A handsome number of qualified employees & staffs should be appointed very
soon for maintaining the normal flow of work.
Filing and record keeping system of the bank should me modernized .At
present operation system is partially computerized and on line banking should
be started very soon.
An officer complains statement must receive.
The main reason for the failure of satisfaction is inadequate documents. So the
professional should collect and maintain all types of documents properly.
Proper investigation should be done whether the employee is utilized as per
the purpose.
Manager should be given a power to make decision up to a certain limit to
increase the satisfaction level.
Some incentive should be provided to the efficient officers to earn more from
them.
4.3 Conclusion
“Employee Job Satisfaction of Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited (SJIBL): A Study on Khulna Branch.”
Page

While concluding, it could be said that with the change of satisfaction determinants,
level of job satisfaction also varies. It is also observed that as a person ages, his job
satisfaction shows an increasing trend. With age, spiritualism of the person increases,
but his alternatives for change decreases. Younger employees have more energy,
more expectations and more options, and hence have lesser satisfaction with the job.
Overall the job satisfaction of bank officers though is not very high, but satisfactory.
But there is still considerable room for improvements.
The Bank is committed to run its activities as per Islamic Shariah and thus it has
different investment(credit) modes, different repayment schedules, different
disbursement procedure, different mark up system. Sell the same to another people.
This system is accepted in Islamic Shariah because here money is converted to
goods.’ Money begets money’ is prohibited in Islamic Shariah. People are getting
more benefit from the dealings of Islamic banking because here quarterly interest is
not charged and there is no possibility of interest to be converted into principal
Islamic Banks can’t charge extra amount on the residual principal of the overdue
accounts like other conventional banks but some compensation is imposed on the
accounts to protect huge accounts to be overdue/classified. It can not take part in call
money market. Mudaraba, Musharaka are another mode of investment in Islamic
Banking. But here honesty is the only pre-requisite. For ensuring more benefit, more
facility from Islamic banks like SJIBL we have to be honest and more sincere to repay
the taken money from these banks in time.
At time, real judgment and honesty of the authorized personnel can help the bank to
increase their advancement and to make them optimum sale and secured.
