ISSUE: RE-FORMULATE SOCIAL CULTURE
Poznan was established as a fortress city that has com-
pounded all activities in a specic perimeter space which
we so-called it as ‘a courtyard approach’ of planning. it
was once considered to be a good approach as it couldgenerate a self sufecient community/society. in contem-
porary times, when the social/culture of cities have been
reformulated through global intervention of moderniza-
tion, the traditional approach of courtyard ceased to func-
tion as it was.

THEME: RECONSTRUCTING INVISIBLE
The theme of ‘reconstructing invisible’ is intentionally
highlighted on the idea of re-vitalising the sense of a
symbolic/memorable place. it is as essential input for the
formulation of spatial space as many city today had notintergrate intangible aspect on its planning which may
cause toward dismantling density and led into migration.
Our approach is to reformulate the social structure/den-
sity by reconstructing the invisible senses of history &
heritage in a different setting and new perspective. it
will be implemented as the key strategies in producing
catalythic program to bring back the symbolic intangible
sense of the place.

CONCEPTUAL IDEA: COURTYARD IN THE AIR
As to bring back the magnicient history of Poznan, we
choose the signicant defensive wall or city wall as the
object which later turn into the conceptual idea. More or
less, the approach is mostly about reconstruction of thewall but in a different way. Old city wall is a wall that goes
around in ground level and the function is to demarcate
the boundary of the city and also as to protect the city.
Courtyard in the air is a new interpretation of city wall
where we try to re-visible the invisible line and raise up
the built form in the air and will have such connection
from horizontal and vertical movement. The spine that
goes around the city will create megastructural architec-
ture where the traditional courtyard of Poznan city will
have new style of old stuff.

VISUAL SCHEME 2: MIXED-USE BOULEVARD
As to bring permanent density in this place, we proposed
in our master programmes a new school, museum, busi-
ness hub, local authority and housing scheme in this in-
tervention. The tower is located on the axis of historicalurban structure. To reect and connect back with the mi -
lieu context, the solidity of tower’s volume was carved out
as to give symbolic to the old city hall.

VISUAL SCHEME 3: ADAPTIVE RE-USE & SKYSCRAPER
We try to bring the succesfull of Stary Browar into this
place by naming it Stary Browar 2. This new adaptive
re-use shopping mall is to cater the needs of this place
and to give more variety towards the Poznan people. Thesecond tower is a continuity of master programmes under
skyscraper scheme which later on will have a connection
with the rst tower and also the next one.
