Department of Advanced Education Programs Funding Needs

The following priorities are listed in order of importance.

Support for the Department of Advanced Education Programs will impact our candidates, but more importantly, it will impact students in the Pre K–12 system; very possibly the students in your community schools.

Research Assistant/ Technology

New technology has been purchased for faculty to use in deepening their relationship with students. The department seeks a full-time staff member to manage and schedule the equipment, and provide staff development in the use and implementation of the technology. This person will also serve as a research assistant to faculty who are exploring new applications and technology to support their teaching.

International Connection Support

Advanced Education Programs faculty have established a partnership with the Volcanes School on the outskirts of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico. This school serves the poorest of the poor in the Puerto Vallarta area. The partnership provides FHSU, AEP and Teacher Education department candidates international experiences with diverse faculty and students. This partnership strengthens the Advanced Education Programs and Teacher Education department accreditation status, which is essential in the continuation of a strong program for our students.

AEP Department Innovation Grants

AEP faculty need to be FHSU leaders in development and implementation of new, effective, and research-proven instructional strategies. Funds received for Innovation Grants will be awarded to faculty for the development and implementation of new technology-based instruction into online classes. Faculty will also utilize funding to attend conferences, and to bring students together in person, or via technology, to practice innovations that strengthen AEP content.

Professional Development Funds

Developing strong, positive relationships among students is a primary focus of the Advanced Education Program. This funding will provide 75 students the opportunity to attend conferences designed to strengthen student-to-student relationships, student-to-instructor relationships, content knowledge, and leadership skills.
