IAEA post-Fukushima plan needs funding
Dec 7, 2012
The IAEA’s post-Fukushima Action Plan needs additional funding and nuclear expertise in order to achieve itsobjectives, Director General Yukiya Amano said Dec. 6 in Platts.
Amano called on more countries to provide funding so the action plan to complete tasks can continue, such asreviews of safety standards worldwide and international expert meetings to discuss lessons gleaned from theFukushima accident.
Japan has been the primary funder thus far, the article said, but Japanese funds can’t be used for activities likepreparing reports on Fukushima, due to a potential conflict of interest.
In any case, Amano said in the article, Japanese money is running out.
