    FEBRUARY HAIKUBy Pat Raymond

    This month came Ground Hogs

It is the day he decides

    More winter or spring?

    Cupid comes this month

    He brings sweet love everywhere

    Each Valentines Day

    Heart madly throbbing

    Its February fourteenth

    Be my Valentine

    Valentine cupid

    Does it bring long-lasting love

    Or is it folly?

    They say love is blind

And what do they mean by this?

    Does it not have eyes?

You were my sweetheartMany long years in the past

    I still think of you

    MEMORIES By Dotty Dittmar

    To live,

    To love, to learn,

    To explore together

    Family, friendships, landscapes rare;

    A gift.

    AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOODBy Sophia Todd

When I was growing up in St. Louis, my

favorite place to visit in the summer times

was the Municipal Opera, at Forest Park.

It was an outdoor theatre which had been

created by a group of hills which formed a

    bowl. The acoustics were magnificent.

And here, at Fellowship Square we also

have an Operaonce a month, a marvelous

presentation by a former Opera Singer. I am

sure many of you know Agatha Mannato,

with the hearty laugh, the great sense of

humor, AND bountiful head of blonde hair.

She hosts a different opera each month,

with a filmed version of some other greats.

She precedes the film by giving a concise

    description of the operas plot.

It wouldnt be a bad idea to dress up a

little for the occasion after all Tucson is

    no longer a cow town.

We thank you, Agatha, for a chance to

remember a time when there was some

refinement left for us to enjoy.

Agatha, were all glad you live at

    Fellowship Square.

P.S. My Favorite Opera is CARMEN.

    WE NEED EACH OTHER

    By Rebecca Barlow Jordan

    We need each other

    In times of private pain,

    Of fear and stress;

    We need each other

    To share our joys, our times of happiness;

We need each otherTo hold on and be strong, and encourage,

    when things are going wrong;

    We need each other

To keep our faith and love,

and remind each other of all

    the things were dreaming of;

We need each other...now and always.

GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST

A 2nd Sunday Advent By Mary Wedge

13 Suddenly a great company of theheavenly host appeared with the angel,

praising God and saying, 14 Glory to

God in the highest heaven, and on earth

peace to those on whom his favor rests.

    Luke 2:13-14 (NIV)

10 See that you do not despise one of

these little ones. For I tell you that their

angels in heaven always see the face of

    my Father in heaven

    Matthew 18:10 (NIV)

Angels we have heard on high, sweetly

singing oer the plains, and the

mountains in reply, echo back their

joyous strain. Gloria, in Excelsis Deo.

We have heard the word guardian.

    The word guardian means one

appointed to look after another. We have

guardians for estates, guardians for the

elderly and guardians for the young.

Scripture tells us God is the Guardian of

    little children.

Let us rejoice during Advent and be

thankful that God sent angels to proclaim

Christs coming to earth. Thank you Lord

for this season of the year. You alone are

    the Righteous One.

LIBRARY CORNERIn the early 1960s, a girl entered a

classroom at the University of Arizona

    thirsting to take Creative Writing.

Get out of here! This is a class for writers, and

girls should stick to nursing and teachingonlymen are capable of writing greatness. shouted the

    professor.

Judy (JA) Jance left the classroom in tears that

day, but since has become one of Americas most

popular mystery writers with over 50 books to her

credit. In her first mystery set around Tucson, the

very first person she had murdered was a

University of Arizona Creative Writing professor.

    Throughout history, that professors stupid

attitude hasnt been unique. Many women writers

take a pen name that might be a mans name to

    overcome this prejudice.

Today, most people dont believe such

nonsense because we know of many great novels

penned by women writers. The talents of the

Bronte sisters is apparent to anyone who has read

Jane Eyre orWuthering Heights. Readers who

read only books written by men have missed Jane

Austens great works. She has out-classed most

men in her generation. The literary world would

be much poorer without her humor, romance, and

    drama.

Henrietta Beecher Stowes great novel Uncle

Toms Cabin is not only a best seller, but became a

lynch pin of a turning point in history. It was oneof Abraham Lincolns favorite books and it helped

to shape his belief in freedom for everyone.

There are far too many great women writers

and poets to mention here, so we urge you to come

discover them for yourself! By far, the most

popular writer in Fellowship Squares library is

Judy (JA) Jance, the girl once kicked out of class

    in Creative Writing.
