A Message from Your PTA President:

February is a busy month at Orchard. We appreciate all of our volunteers

and know that having family members volunteer at events like book fair

and fun night makes these events special for our students.

As we head towards spring (it is coming soon, right?), we will be looking

forward to 5th grade COSI, spring budget bin, BOGO book fair, 3rd quarter

reward party and much more!

A Message from Your Orchard Middle School Principal:

It is hard to believe that the school year is already more than half way over. I wanted to thank all of the PTA volunteers that have made our recent school events a huge success. Thank you to all those individuals that volunteer their time at the Book Fair, COSI and Fun Night.

Some students are already making reading a part of their daily routine, for others it takes more support and coaching. Please support your child as we continue to build their reading habits. Here are some tips to help your child adapt to their reading commitment.

• Set a regular time for reading.

• Set a regular place for reading.

• Give them opportunities to explore the public library.

• Try to limit distractions (TV, radio, phone, siblings).

• Talk to your child about his or her own reading.

• Read with your child. Read to your child; have your child read to you; read the same book. Any way you can be involved with your child’s reading pays huge dividends in engagement.

As we look ahead, please keep the following testing dates in mind when you are scheduling any appointments for your child.

• April 16th and 18th – Ohio 5th and 6th Grade ELA AIR Testing

• April 30th and May 2nd – Ohio 5th and 6th Grade Math AIR Testing

• May 7th and 8th – Ohio 5th Grade Science

For the safety of your child and others, please limit your cell phone usage in our parking lots, drop off and pick up lines. Please drive slowly in our parking lots.

Wednesday, February 27th The Sibling's Stories 7-9 P.M. Solon board of

Education

Often the siblings of special needs children are inadvertently left in the shadows of

family life. So much time is spent on doctors, therapists, counselors, camps, and

management of daily activities, our typical children don't always get the attention

they deserve. Please join us for a panel discussion with Solon School students who

have siblings with disabilities and hear their stories of how this special bond has

changed them personally and their view of the world. We hope this will be a night

of sharing, understanding and compassion.
