THE DIRECTOR

Happy February! On 60 Minutes last Sunday there was a story about a performing arts group in Harlem organized to give unknown talent a chance to perform on stage for the first time. This theater company auditioned sen-iors of various ages and discovered that their life stories were so amazing they modeled a production out of each of them shar-ing themselves through song. PERSPECTIVE BY LYNDA CRAN Today is just another day, as I’m writing it’s our coldest day yet this

winter. I was sitting quietly the other day having coffee at my favorite restaurant, and hearing the customers

complaining about the weather, and I couldn’t help thinking about all the flooding along the mighty Mississippi

and in California, as well as the 4 earthquakes in Oklahoma. What we had wasn’t so bad. I think about last winter on

the east coast with so much snow, why is it, we always complain so much? It just seems like Americans always com-

plain about something. They never seem satisfied. My personal opinion is that we should be glad we live in America &

have so many freedoms, even to complain. Have a good month.

Be Happy, Lynda

an education program by the alzheimer’s association

Communication is more than just talking and listening – it’s also about sending and receiving messages through

attitude, tone of voice, facial expressions and body language. As people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias

progress in their journey and the ability to use words is lost, families need new ways to connect. Join us to explore how

communication takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s, learn to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered

by someone with dementia, and identify strategies to help you connect and communicate at each stage of the disease.
