SENIOR CENTER
S H I R L E Y D O A N E
Dear Friends...
As I sit here writing this note, I’m thinking about the record numbers of you who are showing up for our Wednesday dinners here at the Center. It’s sort of like having a (very big) family dinner, where everyone is so happy to see one another again. It seems in every direction one turns, people are busy talking, laughing, and kidding around with each other...and that’s just on Wednesdays, there’s stuff going on every day here at the Center.
When I retire at the end of this year, I’m thinking that I’ll have to come and volunteer on Wednesdays, because I just couldn’t bear to give up all of your smiling faces.
Thank you to every one of you who makes YOUR Senior Center such a fun place to hang around. If you haven’t experienced your community’s Senior Center yet, come and see for yourself that this is where you’ll find a warm welcome and a strong feeling of belonging! We hope to see you all again real soon.
As you can see, there will be one combined July and August Newslett er . Come and enjoy the many fun activities and events planned through July and August.

Finally it is summer, the time of the year that makes living in Wisconsin so worth it. Al-
beit wet the weather gives such a nice breather from the cumbersome winter oppression.
Seems to me that it also sparks more wonderful associations of fun times gone by. Time fades the
details but I realized as I was searching through years of photographs recently what wonderful
memories are stored away. Some temporarily forgotten but all easily remembered with the help of
photography. These photographs elicited not just reminders of significant people in my life but
captured many good times shared with others. Meals with others outside, summer celebrations in-
cluding my youngest daughter Jill’s 4th of July birthdays. Times when I was the mother and my
mother was the grandma. Times when the children were not parents themselves and everyone was younger!
This season can get too busy with events and activities but I realized how important it is to take
time to savor these warmer days even if it’s only for a short time every day. Hopefully you too may
be enlightened from associating today’s season and yesteryears times - bringing memories to the
forefront of your mind. Even if the past is saddened by the loss of others the good times were en-
joyed and the love always remains forever. Enjoy summer! Enjoy the memories from the past and the new ones being created.
By the time I am writing to you again who knows what the weather will bring! But one thing for sure
it will bring more memories!
If you have card sense and want to learn the card game called bridge, please join Archie’s beginning class.
