Fr. Jim’s Jottings Last Tuesday evening our Parish Council met for the first time this year. EVERYONE was in attendance which is kind of miraculous! Names of those pictured (l-r) Sue Simonsen, Jane Wilz, Matt Carpenter, Traci Shefka, Kaden Bleck, Rachel Schauf, Tom McGreevey, Dave Callan, Vivian Wieseckel & Kurt Schweitzer. (If our picture is too small, stop in the Great Hall and see a larger display of this year’s Council.)

I am grateful to these men and women for their desire to serve the parish. We meet monthly to discuss and review issues that affect the vitality of our parish. If you have concerns about parish life, please share them with these Council members. Thanks.

Please also remember our nursing home residents and shut-ins.

Please pray for the intentions recorded in our Prayer Book of Intentions.

Please remember to pray for our parishioners or family members of our parishioners who have died.

Parish Offices will be CLOSED Tuesday As we get ready to kick off the end of summer and our regular fall schedule, our parish staff has a day away this Tuesday. So our Parish Offices will be closed Tuesday, August 27th. We will still have our 12:05 Mass. Thanks!

WWDWWD (why we do what we do) It looks to me that we are blessed at St Joe’s with good altar servers. Is that true? I can assure you that is true. We have 55 young boys and girls who come and help us at Mass. They can begin serving when they enter 5th grade and can stay on as long as they want…..most retire at the end of high school. When you see them after Mass, thank them for their service.

Care Ministry Invitation Do you enjoy talking and listening to people? We have parishioners who are no longer able to come to

St. Joe’s. For some, it is due to health issues. For others, they can no longer drive. We want them to know they are still a part of the parish. On Wednesday, September 18, at 1:00 pm, or on Thursday, September 19, at 6:30 pm, we will be having a meeting for all Care Ministers. We also invite anyone who is not currently a Care Minister but would like to become one to attend this meeting. If you would like to become a Care Minister but can’t make either meeting, please contact Deacon CF Dedman @[email protected] or Barb Mauthe at [email protected]. You may also call us at 734-7195. Those able to attend please contact us as well so we know how many to expect. This is a very important ministry.

Please pray and consider if this is a ministry for you.

Are you or do you know of someone interested in joining our Catholic faith?? The RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is a program for adults who have not been baptized or were baptized in another faith tradition wishing to join the Catholic faith. Also baptized Catholics who did not receive any of the other sacraments beyond baptism can participate in this program. Please contact Deacon Mark at 734-7195 for more information.

Thank You Lois Macho

Recently our parish received a generous gift of $10,000 from the Estate of Lois Macho. Lois died on January 2, 2019 at the age of 91. Thank you, Lois, for keeping your memory alive here at St Joe’s.

Live the Liturgy

Developing healthy relationships with oth-

ers requires discipline. This is also true of our relationship with God. As Christians, we are called to be like Christ. This does not just happen randomly or when it is convenient for us. It happens when we spend time with Christ every day and strive to be and think like him. This is no small task. It entails a willingness to see things, people, and God differently. Abandoning our self-focused needs and desires and putting on Christ is a challenging discipline to follow. However, if we choose to enter through the narrow gate of discipleship, we will find peace, live virtu-ous lives, and understand what it means to be saved. Resting and being cradled in God's lap and enjoying His presence is where we really desire to be, even though we have to give up some things in order to do so.
