Family Cookie Guide

Dear Girl Scout Family:

Thank you for participating in the 2015 Cookie Program! You may not realize it, but by helping with the cookie program in any way—driving girls to cookie booths, helping sort or count cookies, deliver-ing cookies, collecting money—you are making a tremendous contribution to your daughter, her Troop, and all girls throughout our council.

Much more than a way to raise money, the Cookie Program is a hands-on leadership and entrepre-neurial program unlike any other in the world. Girls gain a wealth of essential skills, not from a book, but from real-life experiences that build a strong foundation for success. Many successful business-women and community leaders say they learned to take action by selling Girl Scout Cookies.

Girls gain tremendous self confidence, find courage they didn’t know they had, and develop char-acter by participating in the Cookie Program. Can you think of a better gift to give your daughter?

The Girl Scout Cookie Program is the largest girl-led business in the world. Through the Girl Scout Cookie Program, girls develop five skills essential to leadership:

Goal Setting ▪ Decision Making ▪ Money Management

Business Ethics ▪ People Skills

How the Diamonds’ ookie rumbles

Safety Remember the buddy system is used during a door-to-door sale. Safety is always first in Girl Scouting.

Daisy, Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts must be accompanied by an adult when taking orders and deliv-ering cookies.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can I sell cookies in local stores? Girl Scout Cookies cannot and must not, be sold in commercial stores without any girl involvement. This does not support our position with the IRS that this is a girl activity.

Can girls return cookies? Once a parent/guardian signs a receipt for the receipt of cookies, he/she is obligated to pay for them. Stale or damaged cookies may be exchanged with the Troop, but they cannot be returned for refund.

Can girls sell cookies on the internet or via email? Girls may now participate in the Digital Order Card (DOC). Through the DOC, girls can email friends, family and other potential customers through a cookie link. These cookies are shipped directly to the customer. Social Me-dia can also be used as a marketing tool for your troop.

Can customers return cookies? If a customer believes that a cookie is stale or is in any way unsatisfactory, he/she can exchange the cookies for a new box with the Girl Scout Troop from which the cookies were purchased.
