LETTER FROM THE SUPERINTENDENTDear Residents,

The Parks & Recreation Department hosted a number of new programs and events this summer; I hope your family had a chance to take part in some of those activities! New favorites like Movies in the Park will be returning for the fall, in addition to a new Wine Mixer event at KLM, Fall Festival, Holiday Express and Breakfast with Santa. For more details on these events please visit the department’s web site or social media pages.

A special thank you to the Hinsdale Rotarians, the parade participants, volunteers and staff for making the July 4th Parade a memorable event! To see photos or video of the July 4th Parade and Festival and other Village events, visit the Village’s Park and Recreation Facebook page.

Take a moment and review the brochure; new offerings are available including programs that are offered in conjunction with The Community House, Westmont, Burr Ridge and Clarendon Hills Park Districts. Staff hopes that you’ll find activities that will be of interest! If you have a program idea or would like to see a new offering, please reach out and let us know!

Root Beer Rocks!Brewing homemade root beer is a ridiculously fun and tasty way to introduce early chemistry teachings to children. Kids can become a history and science expert on this beloved bubbly drink as we produce a batch of

root beer. Next, the class will cast their vote for BEST ROOT BEER IN TOWN as they taste test a flight of 5 different unidentified sumptuous foamy brands. The Village has posted a bike route through the community which should serve both recreational and functional needs. The route takes the cyclist around town, past many of the parks, and covers a trail of nearly 10 miles. As the route uses existing streets, all cyclists are urged to abide by the rules of the road and obey all traffic warnings and signs. A map of the bicycle route is illustrated on this page, and additional copies are available at the Recreation Office and the Police Station.

Always practice bicycle safety - wear your helmet!

Village of Hinsdale | Parks & Recreation • YOUTH LACROSSE

The IGLA is adopting the US Lacrosse “players first” athlete development model: The right lacrosse at the right time, providing every athlete the opportunity to enter, enjoy, and excel. This opportunity will be made available by learning and playing lacrosse in a way that’s best for each stage of each athlete’s growth and

development. This creates a model of participation that provides opportunity for all, for life.

The rationale for small-sided competition is smaller players, smaller fields. That’s the name of the game if we want to keep kids engaged, developing their skills, and getting more touches on the ball. We’ll see better skill development, more enjoyment, and increased retention rates by letting the kids play the right way.

Lacrosse 6U LeagueReady to start lacrosse? Join IGLA this Fall for a weekly one hour clinic exclusively for K-1st Grade girls who want to learn the fundamentals of the game. The goals of this program are to introduce and develop basic skills using fun games and coaching techniques. IGLA will use soft balls so only a stick is required to play. A parent meeting will be held after the first clinic. After registering for this program, please go to www.iglax.org and fill out a player information form.
