EYE TO EYE

As you may have heard, Mary finally retired at the

end of October. We had a lovely meal at The Litton

Pub and Hotel Near Wells, owned and run by Sally

Billington, one of our iPlan clients, and we ended the

evening drinking Southern Comfort and hot choco-

lates sitting around their fire pit with blankets to keep

us warm. I presented Mary with a Raymond Weil

watch to thank her for her many years of dedication

to the business. We were sad to say goodbye, but

having said that, she is back working with us again

next week as Chloe is on holiday and we are short

staffed! We are looking forward to catching up on her

so-called retirement news.

Rebecca joined us with the intention of taking over as

manager from Mary, but having suffered a few per-

sonal problems she left at the same time as Mary.

Juliet has very kindly and competently stepped into

the role of manager, so I am about to employ anoth-

er Eyewear Advisor to complete the team and ensure

that we can continue to offer outstanding customer

service.

Naomi our new optometrist joined us this week to fill

OUR TEAM

Well, this started out as the October newsletter, then became the November issue and I have finally found time to

get it written in time for Christmas.

We are having far and away the busiest autumn ever and I am very grateful for your ongoing support and positive

comments the business, the team, and, occasionally the newsletter!

In this issue I am going to bring you up to date with current and future changes in the team structure, as well as

introducing new technology that we have in the practice and the launch of a new Any Distance, or varifocal lens

design from Essilor, the makers of Varilux, our main lens supplier.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year 2018

the large hole left by Lewes. As I mentioned in the

previous newsletter she trained at Oxford Eye Hospi-

tal before moving to live near Bath with her husband.

She has been working in a small and relatively quiet

practice in Radstock so her first week here has been a

bit of a baptism of fire, but she has coped well and is

enjoying herself.

NEW EQUIPMENT I have always been keen to be able to offer the most

modern technology available to our clients.

In the summer I invested in a Phoropter for the large

consulting room to replace the trial frame and sepa-

rate lenses that I have used for the last 31 years.

It is controlled from a dashboard on the computer

monitor and links to the test chart providing seamless

integration at the click of a mouse. The main benefit

for me is that my arms aren’t stretched out all the

time which causes all sorts of postural problems. The

benefit for you is that it saves you having to wear the

heavy trial frames which often leave a red mark on

the bridge of your nose.

So far, the phoropter is only in the large consulting

room, but now that Naomi has moved in there I think

I will have to invest in one for the other room.

The other piece of equipment that I have installed is

called a VisioOffice and it is designed to take the criti-

cal measurements required for the latest generation

of high tech personalised lenses.

We all use our eyes slightly differently. Some people

move their heads more, whilst others move their

eyes. Our eyes are also slightly different sizes so have

different centres of rotation, and some scan smoothly

across a page whilst others track in a more jerky fash-

ion.

All of these traits are individual to the person, so the

VisioOffice is designed to measure these and allow us

to create bespoke lenses for each person creating the

ultimate visual experience. These measurements can

be applied to the whole range of Essilor varifocal

lenses, but are especially useful in the new top range

of ‘X’ Design lenses (more of these later).

I will continue to assess and install the latest equip-

ment in the practice to provide the very best experi-

ence and products for our clients.

A NEW WORLD From Essilor

Today, everything has changed. We live in a 24/7 con-

nected world, where multitasking is part of our nor-

mal life. With our behaviours evolving, our visual

needs are also different from what they used to be.

Our posture and the way we look at things has

changed.

Everything that matters happens within arms’s reach

and that’s why your near vision and what you can see

between 40-70cm is so important.

Acknowledging today’s new visual needs, the Varilux

team of experts have developed the new generation

of Varilux lenses, VariluxXclusive 4D.

Powered by its breakthrough new Xtend technology,

Varilux Xclusive 4D extends your vision like never be-

fore.

EXTENDED VISION

Varilux Xclusive 4D is the best Varilux progressive lens

arm’s reach with high precision, as well as beyond.

You will enjoy outstanding sharpness, continuous vi-

sion and fluidity from near to far.

Varilux® Xclusive 4D lenses dramatically reduces head

movement so you don’t have to find the sweet spot.

VARILUX XCLUSIVE 4D, THE MOST INNOVATIVE

VARILUX LENS ON THE MARKET

The performance of Varilux Xclusive 4D is enhanced

by high tech personalisation parameters, including a

brand new parameter called Near Vision Behaviour.

Your optician will take a number of thorough meas-

urements using a device called Visioffice. This state-of-

the-art device will take 7 measurements to ensure

that the lenses you wear are fully personalised to you,

your posture and your visual behaviour. Your lenses

will be unique to you and deliver the best visual expe-

rience.

You will experience accelerated fluidity of vision with-

in arm’s reach. Adaptation to your lenses will be very

easy and quick.

INSPIRED BY YOU, POWERED BY MORE THAN 55

YEARS OF INNOVATION

Varilux research and development team puts you first,

using a unique process named LiveOptics. It combines

the latest optical research with observation and

testing by glasses wearers in their daily lives.

To ensure your entire satisfaction, Varilux Xclusive 4D

lenses were conceived with 2,742 glasses wearers

across the world. Varilux new lens generation gets

stunning results through this process.

My comments

We have fitted a few of these now, and one of our iPlan

clients, Murray Stewart, reported that the vision is very

clear with the ‘X’ lens design, and the measurements taken

with the VisioOffice have definitely added to the quality of

the vision and the comfort of wearing the lens. He is very

happy with the result.

WE ARE GLAD & THANKFUL YOU FOUND US

is a monthly (ish) conversation about life as it looks

from the helm of Christopher Young Opticians…..

I believe in relationships and we really value having

a strong relationship with our customers. This is our

way of being open and showing people what we’re

like.

For regular clients, many of you only come in once a

year or once every two years. So we can go a long

time without seeing you. And a lot can happen in a

year or two, hence we like to keep in touch.

For new customers, as we grow I don’t personally

meet lots of you. This unusual publication is an open

dialogue between us so that you can get to know

who we are as a company. And painful as it can be,

we like to show some of our personality. We’re not a

WELCOME

EYE TO EYE faceless company.

The feedback is invaluable. I am extremely interest-

ed in what our customers have to say. I enjoy re-

sponding to the comments. And finally I enjoy writing

it!

Every month I try to rise to the mammoth challenge

of making an “opticians newsletter” a riveting read. If

I’ve failed, in your eyes, to do that, you can unsub-

scribe by just sending an email to:
