How will the English Department support the students?
High quality, stimulating lessons which demand the highest standards at all
times
Classwork and homework will be marked rapidly to allow improvements to
be made
Students will have significant exam preparation time – Big Writes regularly
Registration, Lunchtime and After school sessions will be made available for
targeted individuals
Students will be pushed to achieve challenging and aspirational target
grades
Revision materials will be made available
Students will sit mock exams and have opportunities to learn from these
experiences
Parents can contact the Department with any issues at any time
How can parents and carers support the students?
Monitor their homebased learning and revision and demand highest
standards in these areas. English Literature must be revised continually
and students studied some of this content in year 9.
Keep regular contact with their English Teacher – Email is best.
Encourage them to work at home to the best of their ability.
Don’t accept excuses or second best – hold them to account.
Help plan their revision timetables – NOW! Remember they have covered
over half the course requirements already.
Read fiction and non fiction material at home and discuss with your son
or daughter
pleasure as a teenager has a
demonstrable impact on GCSE
New for this year
Students will be set revision grids for completion at home for Literature
Students will be set weekly essays or extended language questions
which must be completed at home in a timely manner – feedback will be
provided but not grades
Drop in sessions for parents to experience study support with their
son/daughter
Early intervention meetings for those students who are below target,
have poor work ethic or repeated fail to complete home based learning
or class work to a high standard

and support materials. Homework and revision work will be based
around some of these sites to encourage independent study at home
• Students will want to start small and frequent pockets of revision.
This will allow them to address any gaps in knowledge and keep key
content 'fresh' in their memory
• On ShowMyHomework, are a wide range of revision materials and
list a number of sites that students may find beneficial in their
revision
• My strongly recommend revision cycle: Try one of the general
revision tasks - quizzes, revision mats etc. on areas where they drop
marks, watch the topic video on corbett maths and MAKE NOTES!
Use the notes to answer practice questions on that topic. Complete
another general revision task.........and so on!
https://corbettmaths.com - this website has everything under one
roof. You can access videos that explain every aspect of maths,
practice questions, mark schemes and sample assessments.
https://www.missbsresources.com/revision - Miss B has a wide
range of activities that you can use to revise.
https://mathsbot.com/ - this website has a wide range of revision
materials and mark schemes for the tasks. They include Exam style
questions, GCSE recall, revision grids, retrieval facts and practice
papers
website has some nice count down calendars, revision tasks and
skill recall tasks.
Our vision: for all students to be scientifically literate and
curious about the natural world, achieving their full
potential.
• All courses are linear – all exams are in Summer 2021, with
no controlled assessment – practical skills are assessed
through the exams.
• Content is more challenging – some A level content now at
GCSE.
• All students are taking GCSE Science of some sort.
• All of them will be reported using the 9 – 1 scoring system.
Science : Course structure
