2013 CELEBRATES the 100th Anniversary of the Thomas Gainsborough statue on Market Hill, Sudbury.

On 10th June 1913 Princess Louise, daughter of Queen Victoria, unveiled the ‘National Monument to the Great Artist Thomas Gainsborough’. Born in 1727, the youngest son of a weaver, Thomas Gainsborough lived in Sudbury and attended Sudbury Grammar School until he was thirteen when he then went to London to study art. In 1749, after his marriage to Margaret Burr and his fathers death, he returned to Sudbury. In 1752 he moved to Ipswich, then went to live in Bath before his move to London in 1774. Thomas Gainsborough died on 2nd August 1788 and is buried in Kew churchyard.

Gainsborough’s House, which was bought by his parents in 1722 and remained in the family until 1792, showcases the life and work of Thomas Gainsborough, one of the greatest painters in the history of British Art.

For more information about Thomas Gainsborough and Gainsborough’s House visit www.gainsborough.org

CATHY LOST FIVE STONE IN TWENTY WEEKS

Cathy Pegley (43), from Sudbury has dropped from a size 20 to a size 12 after a big family occasion spurred her to finally lose weight once and for all. Cathy had gained weight rapidly after suffering from depression. She said: “I stopped caring about myself really and vowed to always start ‘tomorrow’ but three years went past. That’s a lot of tomorrows”.

Having been slim before her depression, Cathy desperately wanted to lose weight before a large family gathering last summer but having never needed to diet before she wasn’t sure what to do. Then Cathy remembered that her friend Wendy, was a Cambridge Weight Plan Consultant and turned to her for help. She said: “I found the whole thing quite easy, not weighing or measuring. It suited

my lifestyle perfectly”.Since losing weight Cathy has completely got her life

back on track enjoying long walks with her husband, and finally being able to wear those trim size 12 jeans she thought she would never see again.

She said: “Cambridge Weight Plan helped me reset my factory settings about how I think about food”.

For advice on the Cambridge Weight Plan contact accredited Consultant Wendy Bailey who will support you through the programmes and encourage you to maintain your new weight.Tel: 01787 370888 www.alexandras.com

Pet adviceTHERE IS always a lot of news coverage about dogs being left in cars in hot weather. We’ve been lucky enough at our practice not to have encountered many cases of heat stroke. The advice is always the same, but it is easy to forget how hot it can get inside a car and how quickly it can occur. Temperatures can reach over 50°C and dogs can die from heatstroke in as little as 20 minutes. It is very important never to leave a dog unattended in the car in warm weather, even with the window open and water present, they can still suffer with heatstroke very quickly. When embarking on a car journey with a pet on board, make sure they have somewhere to sit away from the sunlight, allow them plenty of access to water and take regular breaks for fresh air. Also take into account if the animal has underlying health or disease which may make the situation worse. The same applies for exercising dogs; try to do this at the coolest part of the day i.e. the early morning or evening. If it is hot for us to exercise or sit in the sun it will be so for your dog also. Remember they can only really lose heat by panting and they are always wearing a fur coat! www.ardmorevets.co.uk

The nursing team will be providing nurse clinics through the summer to assist in the correct choice and application of the best flea, worm and parasite treatments available. Obviously they can also advise suitability according to the age and underlying health problems of your pet, liaising with our vets if required.
