WHAT IS A SOCIAL GROUP?

A social group is a group of people who share similar characteristics as each other, for example, age, social class ect. This allows them to have a sense of unity. In this power point I will be evaluating how my film appeals to people in certain

In my final product, I have tried to represent an individual that belongs to a powerful female/teenager social group. Basically, in my final product I am trying to represent an individual female who is independent and working on her own. I wanted to target my film to late teens up to people in their mid 20’s. I believe that I have done this in the style and expressions of my main actress. In my primary and secondary research I worked out who my target audience for my media product would be. I have linked this to the typical social groups that the thriller genre aim to appeal their films to, according to my research.

AGE

Generally, thriller films are targeted at late teens up to people in their 30’s. My age group for my film would be an age range of 18-25. This is because I have used an attractive independent female lead character that doesn’t need the help of others in order to find what she wants. This links in with the new generation of powerful females rather than the old generation of passive females, making the media product more modern and relatable to our generation of teenagers.

GENDER

Generally, thriller films are aimed at both males and females. Even though my lead character is female, I believe that my media product can relate to both males and females. With the age range of late teens to mid 20’s, I believe that most people in the generation that I am appealing my film to is tolerant if not supportive of the modern day female, so in this aspect my media product will appeal to both males and females as everybody likes to see an independent female character.

SOCIAL CLASS

Generally, thriller films are aimed at class C1. I don’t really have a particular class group of my media product as I believe that my film could appeal to all classes as well as he working class. I think that using the characters and styling of the characters I could also make my film appeal to the middle class and even maybe the upper class depending on the style of music and the different shots that I use. Even though I found on my primary research that 37% of the people who watch thriller films are in class C1, they also have high percentages towards other social groups. 20% of the people who watch thriller films are in class A/B.
