evaluation question 2 how did you represent social groups
TRANSCRIPT
These groups are portrayed in magazines
like NME, KERRANG!, ROCK SOUND and Q to fit the genre of the music.
They are easily recognised by the
following:
Their individual dress sense and clothing. Patterned tights, black boots, leather jackets and lots of
accessories.
The hair is also a key feature of this stereotype. Whether its long or short,
natural or vibrant colours is a bold statement to their image.
Make up tends to be heavy on the eyes, dark and smokey. If lipstick is used its
usually a deep red to keep the dark theme continuing.
Tattoos have become much more popular in this stereotype. They tend to be very
artistic and creative.
Piercings have also become a very popular thing to have with this
stereotype. Lips, tongues, ears and noses are the most common.
Confidence is key in this stereotype. If you are brave enough to step out the door knowing that you are going to be
noticed then it must take a very confident person. It is part of the whole image.
For males its not too dissimilar. Skinny jeans, black boots or trainers, leather or
denim jackets and band t-shirts.
Again piercings have become more and more popular with boys from this
stereotype. Stretchers and plugs in the ears and lip and nose rings are very
popular.
In preparation for my product I've used costume and props
in my photography to create a visual representation
On the covers of most music
magazines the models will be male. Either solely or in a
group forming a dominant structure.
The music genre for the “rock
chick”/”indie kids” is usually rock and
indie. This is exactly what my magazine
represents. Some of the band would
include:
Throughout doing my research i figured that the styles of indie/rock
stereotypes are inspired by band
members and singers. People from this
stereotype idolise and aspire to be like the bands and how they
look.
For my magazine i have managed to put across the rock/indie stereotype through props, models and
costume.
I have chosen my setting to be by a red brick wall and a large
black door on a building in order to construct a background image for
the models. This created an urban vibe
and helps create attitude and confidence in which band members
are supposed to be.
