Costume

The two images on the previous slide are similar as the they have similar costumes on. They’re both wearing leather biker jackets which highlights rebellion from the models and this is associated with tough people.

The colour of the jackets is black which implies mystery about the person. Furthermore, it also connotes fear or aggression towards other people which may be what the person wants other people to feel when they see them.

Positioning & Facial Expression

Direct address is used by both of the models to catch the audiences’ eyes as they walk past it. The models are also on a an angle to highlight the sinister look on his face and the smug look on the woman’s face.

The side pose of the models implies that they’re hiding something or keeping something back from the audience. Furthermore, the models convey attitude which is conventional for this genre of music.

Jared hand position portray that he’s ready for a fight whereas the woman’s hand portray a “don’t mess with me” attitude which links clearly back to the genre conventions.

Moreover, Jared’s facial expression together with the positioning of his hands is quite threating which emphasises that he is ready to fight. Whereas the facial expression of the woman together with hand position appear less threatening but could suggest that she has a tough attitude.

Background & Lighting

In addition to this, the backgrounds are very similar and both images are shot in a studio thus highlighting professional status of the magazine and the professional vibe of both artists.

The lighting on Jared is more prominent as he looks a bit pale in comparison to the woman however, she is still well lit.

Hair & Make-Up

The make-up on the two models is minimalistic. The woman however, has bright red lipstick on which connotes danger which is conventional to the pop-punk / rock genre.

Jared’s hair is dark and gelled up in a quiff to imply that he cares about his appearance and it gives him a little sense of attitude. In comparison to this, the woman has tidy straight hair to also imply that she cares about her appearance.

The shot of the images are slightly different as the woman’s photo is a medium long shot and the man’s image is a mid shot. The mid shot allows the viewer to see the facial expressions whilst still including his hands in the shot. Moreover, the angles are straight on to create a sense of equality between the model and the audience.

Fans may see them as powerful people who are inspirational as they’ve made it in the music industry. This will allow the audience to want to aspire to be them i.e. professionally, and in looks and fashion.

• Overall, the audience will believe that the band members/models are normal and that they can easily be them. They will aspire to be them as they represent a teenage/late 20s social group. They also appear to be very strong characters with attractive facial features which young people will aspire to be like. This group is also quite normal as they don’t have any shown tattoos or dyed hair.

• The clothing worn is quite dark and dangerous which could suggest a rebellious group.
