It is with great pleasure to provide you with the latest news regarding the 8th Eu-ropean Molecular Imaging Meeting - the EMIM 2013 and to invite you to Torino. We are looking forward to meeting you in Italy and to working with you!

The EMIM 2013 committee calls for late-breaking abstract submis-sion on original work for oral and poster presentations. The commit-tee decided to limit the number of abstract categories and to decide on the definite titles for the paral-lel sessions in accordance with the number of submitted abstracts per category. With this we aim to ensure a better representation of the needs and also avoid that quite similar abstracts will be submitted in different categories and almost the same talks “appear” in different sessions.

Nevertheless; to emphasise the importance of the newly estab-lished ESMI Study Groups on

“Intra-operative Imaging” and “Image-Guided Drug Delivery” we extended the abstract categories to these two fields:

EMIM 2013 abstract categories

• Intra-Operative Imaging

• Image-Guided Drug Delivery

• Chemistry/Probes

• Technology/Methodology

• Imaging Cancer

• Imaging Cardiovascular

• Imaging Neurology

TORINO…

Industrial Participation

elegant & aristocratic, versatile & dynamic

An ageless Madama, Turin is much more than the sum of its monu-ments: an urban cosmos teeming with ideas and culture, a large part of its appeal lies in its enchanting geographic position at the foot of the western Alpine arch, watched over by the snow-capped peaks.Italy’s first capital offers incom-parable vistas in the town centre streets and the long colonnaded boulevards, balanced between the measured sumptuousness of Piedmont Baroque and the rational

Roman town planning. It allures by welcoming visitors to the aristocratic and imposing spaces of Piazza Cas-tello, the historic centre of the city, while its historical cafés and restau-rants prove that it is queen of taste and conviviality: so it is impossible to not be tempted by the lively pace of its citizens, particularly the

‘aperitif’ time and the ritual of drink-ing chocolate, the legacy of that famous charm whose chief expo-nent are the Royal Residences, listed

“World Heritage Sites” by UNESCO.Royal Residence – Torino

With the EMIM 2013 we aim to pro-vide a platform to further establish a sustainable and powerful (Euro-pean) Molecular Imaging com-munity through interdisciplinary knowledge exchange on the high-est possible level.Close collaboration with the indus-try is mostly desirable to ensure the transfer of most recent knowledge. We need your support to build up a successful Europe-wide infrastruc-ture in the field of Molecular Imag-ing and to organise a meeting where the surrounding conditions as well as the scientific level are excellent.

“Traditionally” the WMIC started with the Educational Sessions. Fabian Kiessling from Aachen, Germany is serving as Chairperson together with Kimberley Kelly from Virginia, USA.We are excited to emphasise the importance of the educational part by developing a concept covering

the main topics “Chemistry of con-trast media”, “Hardware”, “Post-processing and Cross Validation”, &

“Biology”.The concepts of the sessions – devel-oped by outstanding scientists – are describing the talk titles and the ex-pected contents of the lectures in

order to avoid overlaps, to prevent the speakers from presenting only their own research – simply to present a con-sistent educational programme. 17 internationally recognised experts in-tensely worked on the composition of their concepts. Their dedication to this mission is gratefully acknowledged!

The entire PRIMA curriculum is a common education approach of the European Society for Molecular Imaging, the World Molecular Imaging Society, the Society for Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, the European Association of Nuclear Medicine, and the German Society for Nuclear Medicine.

September 22-26, 2013 in Savannah – right after the WMIC

.... will cover the basic and advanced theoretical background of imag-ing modalities and contrast agents, quantitative image analysis and kinetic modelling, radiochemistry, and disease specific imaging. The perfect opportunity to consoli-date, recapitulate, and enhance your knowledge.Beside the theory, practical teach-ing sessions and group work will provide you the chance to go into the depths of imaging analysis, dis-cuss relevant papers, learn how to design an experiment, and how to handle your data. This workshop is part IV of the Cur-riculum on “Preclinical Imaging in Small Laboratory Animals – PRIMA” organised together with the WMIS. PRIMA IV is in general organised subsequently to the WMIC.

Today’s in vivo images of cancer demonstrate that cancer is no longer synonym of death but still linger somewhere in between blindness and clarity. The next stage in cancer imaging will be to produce and in-terpret in vivo images of cancer ac-cording to the biological hallmarks of cancer defined by Hanahan and Weinberg: sustained proliferative signalling, evasion from growth

suppressors and immune destruction, enabling of replicative immortality, tumor-promoting inflammation, ac-tivation of invasion and metastasis, induction of angiogenesis, genomic instability and mutation, resistance to cell death and deregulation of cellular energetics. The 7th edition of TOPIM discussed the state-of-the-art in imaging the hallmarks of cancer.
